BASIC FUNCTION:

The Director of Partnerships and Outreach will assist the MD of NY Ventures in building and strengthening the innovation ecosystem in New York State for high tech start-ups, innovators and fund managers in strategic industries, including life sciences and AI. This role focuses on active network development, managing strategic partnerships, and increasing the amount of private capital actively investing in and supporting NY based companies and the NY innovation ecosystem. Key efforts include relationship building, planning and executing events, managing partnerships and sponsorships and creating marketing and communications materials to ensure founders, investors, and innovation companies have access to the expertise, resources, and capital needed to grow in New York. This role will work directly with New York Venturesโ€™ portfolio of companies and fund managers, creating opportunities for collaboration and growth.


WORK PERFORMED:

Partnership and Network Development:

  • Develop systems for better overall engagement and long-term relationship development with venture industry leaders and investor stakeholders to foster network connections for the benefit of the New York State innovation community broadly and the New York Ventures portfolio of investments and fund managers more specifically.
  • Act as a network connector by identifying and facilitating introductions between entrepreneurs, investors, potential customers, and resource providers to create sustainable value to companies, innovators and fund managers particularly in strategic sectors such as life sciences/biotechnology and AI

Sponsorship and Event Management:

  • Manage and implement all aspects of sponsorships for New York Ventures and related ESD programs.
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of innovation-focused programs and events that support technology companies, fund managers, key industries and sectors.

Marketing, Public Relations, and Communications:

  • Contribute to the development and coordination of internal and external communications, collateral, and events promoting New York Ventures.
  • Provide support for public relations efforts, including preparing content for announcements, reports, and promotional materials.
  • Ensure effective coordination and integration of activities between ESD staff, the Executive Chamber, and public/private stakeholders.

Strategic Initiatives:

  • Support the Managing Director in structuring and implementing initiatives aligned with strategic industries and technologies (e.g., Life Sciences, Climate Tech, Semiconductors, AI) to stimulate NY State's innovation.
  • Oversee and undertake special projects or initiatives as needed.

Travel up to 25%, primarily within New York State


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education level required: Bachelorโ€™s degree, advanced degree preferred

Experience required: 3+ years of relevant experience in innovation, technology and venture capital investing or family office/philanthropy foundation management, structured network and relationship development, sponsorship and strategic event management/leadership experience

Knowledge Required: Excellent verbal and writing skills; strong understanding of technology and innovation and venture capital sectors; strong interpersonal skills, detail orientation and organizational skills, knowledge of various computer programs and proficiency with learning how to use them.
