Job description

JOB PURPOSE
The Refrigeration Engineer reports to the Refrigeration Engineering Manager and is responsible for the design and preparation of plans and specifications for the installation of supermarket refrigeration equipment and systems for new store, store remodel and capital maintenance projects. Assessments of existing equipment and installations, with recommendation to maintain, modify or replace, is included as part of the Engineer's responsibility for remodel and capital maintenance projects.
This position will be engaged in and support CBES' work for a single selected supermarket client.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design the full field-erected refrigeration system, including pipe sizing and layout, equipment selections, and configuration of parallel compressor systems to serve the refrigerated fixture plan as created by the supermarket owner.
  • Using AutoCAD and Excel, prepare refrigeration systems plans, piping plans and equipment schedules.
  • Prepare installation specifications to incorporate project-specific requirements into a standard specification template.
  • Perform field inspections and assessments of existing refrigeration equipment and installations for the purpose of making recommendations to maintain as-is, modify or replace the equipment as part of a store remodel or capital maintenance project.
  • Prepare specifications, solicit quotes and issue requisitions for the purchase of refrigeration equipment.
  • Assemble bid document packages that include all project refrigeration plans and specifications for solicitation of competitive bids by the Project Manager for the refrigeration installation.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Prepare phasing plans to coordinate the refrigeration installation for a remodel or capital maintenance project with the overall project phasing as determined by the Project Manager.
  • Update existing refrigeration plans as required for revisions made to fixture plans.
  • Assist the Project Manager with inspections of installations in progress for conformance to refrigeration plans and specifications.
  • Communicate and coordinate with equipment manufacturer's in the development of project-specific specifications for customized refrigeration equipment or systems.
  • Provide assessments of existing HVAC equipment with recommendation for maintain, modify or replace

REQUIREMENTS
  • 3+ years' experience in HVACR, construction or engineering design services industry
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • AutoCAD
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Experience reviewing refrigeration systems, cycles and controls related to commercial or industrial refrigerants (including R744 - Co2)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to travel 10-20% (overnight travel required)
  • Self-directed with initiative and motivation
