Job description

Location: Detroit, MI
Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is one of North America's premier processors, buyers, sellers and recyclers of scrap metals of all kinds and is a key supplier to the metals industry of North America. FPT is a wholly-owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Commercial Analyst at our Detroit, MI Corporate Office. This role offers hands-on exposure to the recycled metals and ferrous scrap markets, supporting pricing strategy, market analysis, and commercial decision-making across domestic and global steel supply chains.
Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and analyze ferrous scrap and steel market trends using industry sources (e.g., Argus, Fastmarkets)
  • Track domestic and export pricing and key industry benchmarks
  • Support pricing decisions by analyzing buy/sell data, spreads, and margins
  • Assist with customer quotes and supplier negotiations
  • Build basic pricing models to evaluate deal profitability
  • Collect and analyze data related to purchases, sales, inventory, and shipments
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, and market summaries for leadership
  • Collaborate with operations, logistics, finance, and sales teams
  • Support forecasting and ad hoc commercial projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to interpret market data and identify trends
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis)
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar data visualization tools (preferred)
  • Interest in commodity markets, recycling, or the steel industry
  • Understanding of supply and demand fundamentals (preferred)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present insights clearly
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work cross-functionally
