Job description

Location: Detroit, MI
Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is one of North America's premier processors, buyers, sellers, and recyclers of scrap metals of all kinds and is a key supplier to the metals industry of North America. FPT is a wholly-owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs and has an immediate opportunity for a Maintenance Technician at one of our Detroit, MI locations. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the repair and maintenance of machinery and production equipment.
Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards including use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), remove hazards as identified, and maintain cleanliness of the site.
  • Visually inspect and listen to machines and equipment to locate malfunctions.
  • Change hose assemblies and conveyor belts.
  • Remove and replace worn or defective parts of the drive mechanism or hydraulic system.
  • Locate damaged air and hydraulic pipes on machines and install new pipes.
  • Start machines and equipment to test operation following repair.
  • Perform cleaning duties related to yard and plant equipment and general housekeeping.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair & maintain all plant and yard equipment and machines.
  • Perform torch cutting and welding.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma/GED and must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a machine repair technician.
  • 2 year trade school preferred.
  • Experience with mobile equipment repair preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, self motivated and self-directed.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to follow oral and written communication.
  • Ability to climb ladders or steps to reach objects.
  • Ability to endure physical and outdoor work on a daily basis.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Work cooperatively with other employees and the public.
  • Must be able to work in an environment where routinely exposed to dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate and changes in weather.
  • Pre-Employment background, physical, and hair drug screen required.
