Job description

Job Title: Field Service Engineer

Location: Boise, ID (Onsite)

Duration: Full Time

Position Summary:

Client is seeking a hands-on Field Service Engineer to support advanced semiconductor metrology systems at a customer site in Boise. This role is the technical face of Client in the field: maintaining system performance, resolving complex equipment issues, supporting installations and upgrades, and building trusted relationships with customer engineering and operations teams.

The right person is a self-starter who combines strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills with disciplined service documentation, clear communication, and the judgment to own issues through resolution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Client systems and end users in accordance with warranty and service support agreements.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, high-vacuum, software, and system-integration issues using structured troubleshooting methods.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and support new equipment installations, add-ons, upgrades, and system qualification activities.
  • Serve as the on-site liaison among the customer, Client Technical Support, Applications, Sales, and R&D teams; communicate status, risk, and next actions clearly.
  • Maintain accurate service records and provide regular activity, performance, and issue reports to customer stakeholders and Client management.
  • Train and retrain customer users to promote safe operation, proper equipment use, and a strong working level of system knowledge.
  • Manage assigned spare-parts inventory, recommend appropriate stock levels, repair components when applicable, and ensure backup systems are stored and available when needed.
  • Support customer evaluations and provide technically grounded information that helps Client’s commercial and applications teams.
  • Follow all customer-site requirements for safety, cleanroom conduct, security, confidentiality, ergonomics, and professional behavior.
  • Provide support during the schedule defined by the service agreement and respond outside normal business hours, including weekends, when customer needs require it.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • At least 3 years of experience supporting complex electromechanical equipment, preferably within semiconductor manufacturing, capital equipment, or precision metrology.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude with demonstrated independent troubleshooting ability; high-vacuum experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to provide first-level software troubleshooting and technical support.
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor equipment integration and communication protocols such as SECS/GEM and HSMS.
  • Understanding of semiconductor-fab practices, safety standards, ergonomics, and yield requirements.
  • Ability to perform hands-on work in a cleanroom, including bending, crawling, and working in and around semiconductor equipment systems.
  • Ability to meet customer-site access, training, and safety requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Field service experience with multi-disciplinary semiconductor metrology, inspection, or process-control equipment.
  • Experience with optical systems, motion control, pneumatics, vacuum subsystems, robotics, or equipment automation.
  • Experience supporting equipment in a high-volume manufacturing environment and partnering directly with fab engineering teams.
