Client Facing Project Manager information

What does a client facing project manager do?

A Client Facing Project Manager is responsible for managing projects while maintaining direct communication with clients throughout the project lifecycle. They serve as the main point of contact between the client and the internal project team, ensuring that client needs and expectations are understood and met. Their duties include project planning, coordinating tasks and resources, managing timelines and budgets, and providing regular updates to clients. This role requires strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills to deliver successful project outcomes and maintain positive client relationships.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a client facing project manager?

To thrive as a Client Facing Project Manager, you need strong project management expertise, organizational skills, and a relevant degree or certification such as PMP or PRINCE2. Familiarity with project management software like MS Project, Jira, or Asana, as well as CRM systems, is typically required. Outstanding communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help build trust and facilitate collaboration with clients and internal teams. These abilities are crucial for delivering successful projects on time and within scope while maintaining positive client relationships.

How does a client facing project manager typically balance client expectations with project constraints?

Client Facing Project Managers often serve as the primary point of contact between clients and internal teams, requiring strong communication and negotiation skills. Balancing client expectations with project constraints like budget, timeline, and resource availability is a central challenge. This involves setting clear, realistic goals with clients from the outset, proactively managing changes, and regularly updating stakeholders on progress or risks. Successful managers foster transparency and trust, ensuring that both client needs and organizational capabilities are aligned throughout the project's lifecycle.

What is the difference between Client Facing Project Manager vs Project Coordinator?

Work EnvironmentClient interactions, project planning, stakeholder managementInternal team support, scheduling, documentation
Employer & Industry UsageConsulting, IT, construction, marketingVarious industries, supporting project teams

The main difference is that a Client Facing Project Manager actively manages client relationships and oversees project delivery, while a Project Coordinator primarily supports project teams with administrative and logistical tasks. The Project Coordinator typically works under the supervision of a Project Manager and does not have direct client interaction. Both roles are essential in project execution but differ in responsibilities and client engagement levels.
