Floor Technician (Retail/Mall)

The Floor Technician is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and well-maintained floors throughout a shopping center. This position works primarily during the evening shift and operates automatic floor scrubbers and other floor-care equipment to clean mall common areas.

The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, attentive to detail, and comfortable operating cleaning equipment in a shopping center environment.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operate automatic floor scrubbers and other floor-care equipment to clean mall floors
  • Sweep and prepare floor areas before operating equipment
  • Clean and maintain common-area floors, corridors, entrances, food court areas, and other assigned spaces
  • Remove dirt, spills, stains, debris, and buildup from floor surfaces
  • Perform spot cleaning and address floor-care needs throughout the shift
  • Inspect cleaned areas to ensure quality standards are met
  • Safely operate floor-care equipment around guests, tenants, fixtures, and property
  • Use wet-floor signs and other safety measures when cleaning
  • Follow established procedures for cleaning chemicals and floor-care products
  • Inspect equipment before use and report damage, malfunctions, or maintenance concerns
  • Clean and properly store floor equipment, tools, and supplies after use
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings and immediately address or report safety hazards
  • Communicate equipment, supply, property, or cleaning concerns to management
  • Assist with other custodial or cleaning duties as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Previous floor-care, janitorial, or commercial cleaning experience preferred
  • Experience operating automatic floor scrubbers or similar equipment preferred
  • Ability to safely operate floor-care equipment or learn proper operation
  • Dependable and punctual with consistent attendance
  • Strong attention to detail and quality
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to follow cleaning, equipment, and safety procedures
  • Able to manage time and complete assigned areas during the shift
  • Comfortable working an evening schedule
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Employees may be required to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Bend, stoop, squat, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive movements
  • Push, pull, and maneuver floor-care equipment
  • Lift, carry, move, and position up to 40 pounds
  • Navigate stairs and varying walking surfaces
  • Work around water, cleaning chemicals, and wet or slippery surfaces
  • Perform physically demanding cleaning duties throughout the shift

This position is performed primarily inside a shopping center and may involve working around guests, tenants, moving equipment, and other cleaning operations.
