What is a cleaning assistant?

Cleaning Assistants are professionals responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in a variety of settings, such as offices, homes, schools, and hospitals. Their duties typically include tasks like sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, emptying trash bins, and sanitizing surfaces. They may also be responsible for restocking supplies and reporting any maintenance issues. Cleaning Assistants play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for everyone.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a cleaning assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cleaning Assistant, you need a strong attention to detail, knowledge of cleaning procedures, and basic understanding of health and safety standards, often supported by on-the-job training or a high school diploma. Familiarity with cleaning equipment, chemical handling protocols, and sometimes COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) certification is typically required. Reliability, time management, and good communication skills help Cleaning Assistants work efficiently and effectively within a team or independently. These skills ensure that environments remain hygienic, safe, and welcoming for all occupants.

What are some common challenges faced by cleaning assistants, and how can they be managed effectively?

Cleaning Assistants often encounter challenges such as managing time efficiently to cover all assigned areas, handling demanding workloads during busy periods, and safely using cleaning chemicals and equipment. To manage these challenges, it's important to follow a well-organized cleaning schedule, communicate openly with supervisors about workload concerns, and adhere strictly to safety guidelines and training. Many workplaces provide support through team collaboration and regular check-ins to ensure Cleaning Assistants can perform their duties effectively and safely.

Location: Manchester, TN

The Mission

At SERVPRO, we don’t just repair buildings—we restore peace of mind. When a family experiences a fire, flood, or construction project, the dust and damage can feel overwhelming. Your mission is to step into that chaos and use your attention to detail to restore order. Whether you are carefully packing up a customer's personal belongings, cleaning smoke-damaged items, or wiping down a home after a major rebuild, you are the final touch that makes it "Like it never even happened."
The Role: Detail-Oriented & Active

This is a physically demanding, manual labor position that requires high stamina and an absolute eye for cleanliness. You will be working directly on job sites and back at our warehouse facility under the direction of a Crew Lead.
Key Responsibilities

  • Careful Packing & Pack-Outs: Wrap, box, and protect a customer's personal belongings (dishes, electronics, clothing, heirlooms) so they can be safely transported without damage.
  • Post-Construction Cleans: Clear out the fine dust, debris, and smudges left behind after active construction. This includes wiping down cabinetry, detailed vacuuming, cleaning windows, and making the house look showroom-ready.
  • Residential Deep Cleaning: Perform thorough deep-cleans for homeowners, including specialized soot and smoke deodorization, carpet detailing, and complete room sanitizing.
  • Warehouse Cleaning: Assist in detailing and treating affected customer items brought back to our facility using specialized cleaning solutions and equipment.
  • Digital Logging: Use a smartphone or tablet to take clear photos of items and assist the Lead in inventory tracking.
  • Manual Labor: Safely lift, carry, and maneuver boxes and furniture (50+ lbs regularly) alongside your teammates.
Requirements

  • The "Eye for Detail": You are the kind of person who notices the small spots others miss. You take pride in leaving a room completely clean.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and lift heavy objects for long shifts in both hot and cold environments.
  • Team Mindset: Willingness to listen to instructions, work hard alongside your crew, and treat customers' belongings with absolute respect.
  • Reliability: Show up on time, every day, with a professional attitude and ready to work.
  • Screening: Must have a valid Driver’s License, pass a background check, and pass a drug screen.
What’s In It For You?

  • Starting Pay: $17.00/hour with steady hours and consistent Overtime opportunities.

  • Career Growth: We don't want you to be an entry-level worker forever. We pay for your professional training and IICRC industry certifications so you can move up the ranks to a $21.00/hr Contents Lead.
Equal Opportunity Employer

SERVPRO is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All employment is decided on the basis of qualifications, merit, and business need.
