What is a cleaning assistant?

Cleaning Assistants are professionals responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in a variety of settings, such as offices, homes, schools, and hospitals. Their duties typically include tasks like sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, emptying trash bins, and sanitizing surfaces. They may also be responsible for restocking supplies and reporting any maintenance issues. Cleaning Assistants play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for everyone.

What are some common challenges faced by cleaning assistants, and how can they be managed effectively?

Cleaning Assistants often encounter challenges such as managing time efficiently to cover all assigned areas, handling demanding workloads during busy periods, and safely using cleaning chemicals and equipment. To manage these challenges, it's important to follow a well-organized cleaning schedule, communicate openly with supervisors about workload concerns, and adhere strictly to safety guidelines and training. Many workplaces provide support through team collaboration and regular check-ins to ensure Cleaning Assistants can perform their duties effectively and safely.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a cleaning assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cleaning Assistant, you need a strong attention to detail, knowledge of cleaning procedures, and basic understanding of health and safety standards, often supported by on-the-job training or a high school diploma. Job description

Lakeland Veterinary Hospital is hiring a Part-Time Cleaning Assistant to help keep our hospital clean, safe, and welcoming for the pets and clients we serve. This role is a great fit for a high school student (16+) or a retired individual looking for a flexible part-time schedule.

What to Expect

As you join our mission to provide our patients with the level of care we would demand for our own pets, expect to be supported in your work and home life with:

  • 401(k) plan for full-time employees
  • Guardian voluntary benefits
  • Employee pet discounts! Because we know your pets are family, too.

Salary: $13 - $14 per hour, determined by the candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications.

Schedule: This is a part-time position with flexible shift options:

  • Sunday-Thursday, 5:00pm-7:00pm (standard schedule), or
  • Monday-Friday, 5:00pm-7:00pm
  • We're also open to 6:00pm-8:00pm or 5:00am-7:00am shifts

Our goal is to have floors and garbage areas clean by 7:15am, Monday through Friday.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sweep, mop, and empty garbage daily throughout the hospital
  • Follow a rotating schedule for cleaning bathrooms and the breakroom
  • Maintain a consistently clean, sanitary, and organized facility

Growth Opportunity

For the right fit, there's an opportunity to cross-train into our kennel department. Several of our current kennel staff are cross-trained and pick up cleaning shifts as needed - a great way to build additional hours and experience.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for animals is a plus, especially if interested in cross-training into kennel care
