Job description

Job Summary 

This position performs routine custodial and grounds maintenance duties to maintain clean, safe, and wellkept interior and exterior facilities in accordance with established procedures and company standards. The Lead also provides daily directions to custodial and groundskeeping staff, assists with task coordination, and ensures work is completed in alignment with performance, safety, and security expectations within government and defense environments. 

Primary Job Functions 

Custodial Duties 

  • Provide daily cleaning support to hightraffic areas of the building designated by the supervisor. 
  • Stock bathrooms with toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, and soap. 
  • Sweep, vacuum, wipe, and mop storage units, hallways, restrooms, elevators, etc.
  • Dust furniture, walls, and equipment, including moving and rearranging items as needed. 
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using cleaners, sponges, and squeegees. 
  • Ensure that cleaning supplies are stored in a safe, secure area always. 
  • Complete standardized cleaning processes per company and government contract standards. 
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment. 
  • Attend regular staff meetings and required in service training sessions. 
  • Follow basic work routines and standards in the application of work. 
  • Use existing procedures to solve straightforward problems while having limited opportunity to exercise discretion. 

Groundskeeping Duties 

  • Cut grass using walking-type or riding mowers (less than 2000 lbs). 
  • Trim hedges and edge around walkways, flower beds, and wells using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools. 
  • Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth using shears and other hand tools. 
  • Apply fertilizer or insecticide to lawns, shrubs, and trees as directed. 
  • Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs as part of seasonal or routine landscaping. 
  • Water lawns and shrubs during dry periods using hoses or sprinkler systems. 
  • Pick up and dispose of leaves, paper, or other litter to maintain clean outdoor areas. 
  • Clean comfort stations, office areas, workshop spaces, and parking lots by sweeping, washing, mopping, and polishing as required. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

What you'll need:

Education:  

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered

Experience  

  • Required: Minimum of 2 years of job-related experience

Working Conditions:  

  • Occasional exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Fulfill the physical requirements associated with this role. This includes stooping, standing, walking, and climbing stairs. Must be able to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.  
  • In-depth understanding of a range of processes, procedures, systems, and concepts within own function and basic knowledge of related job functions required. 
  • Requires the ability to explain complex concepts or sensitive information.  
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.  
  • Excellent organizational skills with a master-level inquisitive mindset.
