How much do clean room assembly jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 17, 2026, the average hourly pay for clean room assembly in Texas is $16.20, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.57 and $17.69 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is clean room assembly?

Clean room assembly refers to the process of assembling products in a highly controlled environment where the concentration of airborne particles, temperature, humidity, and other factors are tightly regulated. This type of assembly is commonly used in industries like electronics, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and aerospace, where even tiny contaminants could compromise product quality or safety. Workers in clean room assembly typically wear special clothing and follow strict procedures to prevent contamination. The main goal is to ensure that sensitive components are manufactured or put together in the cleanest possible conditions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a clean room assembly technician, and why are they important?

To excel in Clean Room Assembly, you need strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and a high school diploma or equivalent, with some employers preferring prior experience in manufacturing or assembly environments. Familiarity with cleanroom protocols, use of microscopes, and handling specialized assembly tools or equipment is typically required. Effective teamwork, the ability to follow strict procedures, and good communication skills set top performers apart. These abilities ensure the production of high-quality, contamination-free products critical in industries like pharmaceuticals, electronics, and medical devices.

What are some common challenges faced in a clean room assembly role, and how can new employees effectively overcome them?

One of the main challenges in clean room assembly is maintaining strict contamination control while performing detailed tasks, which requires consistent attention to cleanliness protocols and the proper use of personal protective equipment. New employees may initially find it difficult to adapt to the repetitive gowning procedures and the fastidious handling of delicate components. To overcome these challenges, it's important to follow training closely, ask questions when unsure, and develop a routine that incorporates all required steps. Collaboration with experienced team members can also help new staff acclimate to the workflow and quality standards typical in clean room environments.

What is the difference between Clean Room Assembly vs Microelectronics Assembler?

AspectClean Room AssemblyMicroelectronics Assembler
CredentialsHigh school diploma or equivalent; training in clean room protocolsHigh school diploma; specialized training in microelectronics
Work EnvironmentControlled clean room environment to prevent contaminationClean, controlled environment, often in electronics manufacturing
Industry UsageSemiconductor, pharmaceutical, biotech industriesElectronics, semiconductor manufacturing
Job FocusAssembling components in contamination-sensitive settingsAssembling microelectronic components and circuits

While both roles require working in clean environments, Clean Room Assembly focuses on assembling products in contamination-controlled settings, often for biotech or semiconductor industries. Microelectronics Assemblers specifically handle microelectronic components and circuits, with a focus on precision assembly of tiny electronic parts. Both roles demand attention to cleanliness and technical skills, but differ in their specific applications and industry focus.
