Job description

PRN - Shifts Vary Days, evenings and weekends

Starting Pay - $22.50 to $33.74 (based on experience)

Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or Doula certification required
  • Bachelors Degree preferred
  • Training in area of specialty in process or completed: Childbirth Education and/or Breastfeeding
  • Completion of, or in process of, completing basic perinatal teaching training courses (CLC, LCCE, ICCE, Car Seat certification)
  • Experience in teaching a variety of groups preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Presentation experience
  • Computer skills to include, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint – ability to learn additional database programs
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with expectant families preferred
  • BLS certification

Job Responsibilities:

  • Educates expectant parents so informed decisions can be made during pregnancy and labor.
  • Provides professional leadership in the classroom by teaching accurate, relevant, and level appropriate material.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching methods in order to serve the varying population of learners.
  • Stays committed to class curriculum to ensure consistent teaching of specific information for OMC patients.
  • Presents self as a professional resource for expectant parents to support and equip them in preparation for their birth experience and early parenting.
  • Provides a safe environment that promotes a positive learning atmosphere for all participants.
  • Prepares classroom material and physical space before participants arrive.
  • Works as a member of the Prenatal & Family Education team to provide professional support and encouragement to one another.
  • Completes the ongoing requirements from the prenatal educator competency.
  • Fulfills class teaching schedule times as needed by program.
  • Represents OMC and Prenatal & Family Education department at appropriate health fairs/expos.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Job Responsibilities for Perinatal Educators Who Have Office Hours:

    • Provides tours of the BirthCenter as needed.
    • Provides one-on-one education as needed.
    • Facilitates patient and staff use of Prenatal Education Library.
    • Participates in initiating, implementing, and maintaining education tools/material under supervisor’s guidance.
    • Charts all one-on-one education appointments in EHR.
    • Represents Prenatal & Family Education department on various committees in organization and community as delegated.
    • Provides car seat checks if qualified as a child passenger safety trainer.
