Job description

School Name: St. Mary Preschool
Location: 130 E 13th Ave., Escondido, CA 92025
Reports to: Preschool Director
Employment Type: Part Time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: starting at $19/hr.
Summary
The professional hired will be responsible for assisting in the general supervision and management of children between the ages of two and five years of age.
Teaching Responsibilities
  • Assist preschool teacher in supervising and implementing the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Diocese of San Diego
  • Respecting and honoring the needs of the individual children with concern for their interests, special needs, talents, and individual style and pace of learning
  • Considering individual children in relationship to their cultural and socioeconomic background.
  • Treating children with dignity and respect
  • Helping children to become aware of their roles as integral member of a group
  • Assist preschool teacher in the ordered arrangement, appearance, decor and learning environment of the classroom
  • Assuming an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff after the children have either departed or are under the supervision of another teacher
  • Participating in recommended training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth
  • Assisting in the ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the development levels of the children
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Participating in public relations events sponsored by the school but not limited to; shall include Back to School Night, Christmas program, Grandparents Day concert, Open House, Moving Up Ceremony, and school fundraisers

Administrative/ Other Responsibilities
  • Return voice-mail/e-mail messages in a timely manner, within 24 hours weekdays
  • Communicate regularly with parents, posting weekly on Class Dojo with classroom updates
  • Submit assessment data and complete tasks assigned by principal in a timely manner
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom
  • Demonstrate a respectful demeanor with staff, students, and parents
  • Observe utmost confidentiality regarding parent, student, staff information/conversations
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities to support leadership and instructional roles
  • Supervise playground and other areas of duty as the role may require
  • Other duties as assigned

Religious Qualifications
  • Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
  • Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy

Professional Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Proof of completion of 6 or more Early Childhood Education (ECE) Units OR proof of completion of at least 2 units of ECE and enrollment in current ECE class, working towards completion of 6 units
  • Fingerprint and CMG Background Clearance, CPR and First Aid, and cleared TB test to work in a Licensed Child Care Facility (Requirement upon hire)
  • Has experience teaching OR desire to teach and models Catholic values
  • Passion to work with young children and desire to grow as an educator
  • Has a positive attitude and enthusiasm for teaching

Physical Requirements
To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must:
  • Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating
  • Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
  • Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces.
  • Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending.
  • Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class.
  • Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms.
