What is a Class B license?

A Class B license is a type of commercial driver's license (CDL) required in the United States for operating single vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more, or a vehicle towing another vehicle not in excess of 10,000 pounds GVWR. This license is commonly needed for driving large buses, delivery trucks, dump trucks, and similar vehicles. To obtain a Class B license, drivers must pass both written knowledge tests and a skills/driving test. Additional endorsements may be required for transporting passengers or hazardous materials.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Class B license driver?

To thrive with a Class B License, you need a thorough understanding of commercial driving regulations, safe vehicle operation, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent along with the Class B Commercial Driver's License. Familiarity with vehicle inspection procedures, logbook or electronic logging devices (ELDs), and sometimes endorsements for air brakes or passenger transport are important technical requirements. Strong attention to detail, time management, and customer service skills help drivers excel in daily routes and interactions. These skills ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and reliable service in transporting passengers or goods.

What are some common challenges drivers face when starting a job that requires a Class B license?
