What is a Class A driver?

Class A drivers are commercial truck drivers who hold a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). This license allows them to operate large vehicles such as tractor-trailers, semi-trucks, and other combinations of vehicles with a gross combination weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 pounds or more, provided the towed vehicle is heavier than 10,000 pounds. Class A drivers are qualified to transport goods across long distances and may be required to pass additional endorsements for specific types of cargo. They must adhere to strict safety regulations and often work for trucking companies or as independent operators.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Class A truck driver?

To thrive as a Class A Truck Driver, you need a valid CDL Class A license, a clean driving record, and knowledge of safety regulations and basic vehicle maintenance. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and various freight handling equipment is typically required. Dependability, attention to detail, and strong time management are crucial soft skills for managing schedules and cargo. These skills and qualities are vital to ensure safe, timely, and compliant transport of goods across long distances.

What are some common challenges faced by Class A truck drivers during long-haul routes, and how can they be managed?

Class A truck drivers often encounter challenges such as extended hours on the road, unpredictable weather conditions, and strict delivery deadlines. Managing fatigue, maintaining a healthy work-life balance, and adhering to safety regulations are crucial for success in this role. Building strong time management skills and staying organized can help drivers meet schedules while ensuring compliance with Hours of Service rules. Additionally, staying connected with dispatch and other team members supports smooth operations and quick problem-solving during unexpected situations.

Job description

CDL CLASS A DRIVERS WANTED — REGIONAL POSITIONS.
Call 562-486-7050 or 310-919-9831.
$5,000 SIGN-ON BONUS FOR NEW DRIVERS.
$1,000 DRIVER REFERRAL BONUS.
MDB Transportation is hiring experienced CDL Class A drivers out of our Dallas TX, terminal. We have TWO position types open — pick the one that fits your life:

REGIONAL / PER MILE:
  • $0.60 per mile for solo drivers.
  • Runs 250+ miles — Western states.
  • Consistent weekly home time.
Team drivers: ask about our $0.80 per mile team rate.

POTENTIAL EARNINGS:
$70,000 – $100,000 per year — plus your $5,000 sign-on bonus. Steady, dedicated freight means consistent paychecks year-round, not feast-or-famine miles.

BOTH POSITIONS INCLUDE:
  • $5,000 sign-on bonus for new drivers.
  • $1,000 bonus for every driver you refer.
  • Dedicated dry van freight available — steady, year-round work.
  • 99% no-touch freight.
  • Weekly pay via direct deposit.
  • Full benefits package — medical, dental, and vision.
  • W-2 company driver position — NOT 1099.
  • No contractor setup, no 1099 deductions.
  • Company equipment.
  • Professional dispatch support.
  • Long-term stable opportunity.

YOUR TIME MATTERS:
We understand that drivers spend time doing more than just driving. Our pay is built to compensate professional company drivers for the full trip cycle — driving time, loading and unloading, pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and required work related to the load.

ABOUT MDB TRANSPORTATION:
We have been moving freight out of Compton since 2002. We are a 100% asset-based dry van carrier running a modern clean-energy CNG fleet — with our own on-site fueling station and on-site mechanics, so you are never stuck waiting on a third-party shop. We run dedicated customer freight across the West Coast with consistent lanes and steady miles. At MDB you are a name, not a truck number — you will know your dispatcher, and they will know you.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid Class A CDL.
  • Minimum 2 years of verifiable experience.
  • Clean driving record — reliable and safety-focused.
  • Must be able to read and communicate in English (FMCSA requirement) — bilingual is a plus.
  • No special endorsements required.
  • Must be able to work as a W-2 company driver.

APPLY TODAY:
Call 310-650-0239 or 562-486-7050.
