Job description

Description The Gloucester County Public Utilities Department is seeking a Class IV Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Operator to join their team. Join our team and contribute to the efficient operation of our plant while utilizing your expertise in water treatment processes. Under supervision, the Class IV Operator performs responsible technical work in the operation and general maintenance of the water treatment plant.

Trains in and assists with operation of water treatment plant. As directed, operates and maintains motor controllers, pumps, valves and meters. Monitors the on-screen display for the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) software.

Employee must exercise initiative and some independent judgment in completing assigned tasks. Employee must exercise tact, courtesy and firmness in contact with customers and the general public. Reports to designated Lead Water Treatment Plant Operator or Water Treatment Plant Manager.

Job Highlights Trains in water treatment plant operations and laboratory procedures. Assists Class I and Class II Waterworks Operators in their duties. Collects water samples from water treatment plant and water distribution system.

Tests water samples using standard waterworks laboratory equipment and records test result. Completes chains of custody and delivers water samples to independent laboratories as needed. Responds to water quality complaints.

Performs general facility maintenance, custodial duties and grounds keeping. Maintains awareness of safety requirements for industrial waterworks environments and on-site chemical Safety Data Sheets. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Possession of a high school diploma/GED. Possession of a Virginia Class IV Waterworks License. Special Requirements Possession of a valid driver's license; possess and maintain a driving record that meets established Gloucester County Driving Standards.

Pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical. Position subject to subsequent physical examinations to ensure incumbent meets physical job requirements. Obtain a Virginia Class III Waterworks License within two (2) years of employment as a Class IV Waterworks Operator.

Be able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Be able to temporarily or indefinitely alternate shifts with limited notification. To be considered for this position, your online application must include your resume and three (3) professional references.
