Job description

General Description:

The Boiler Engineer shall become an important part of the culture, uphold standards, support the company’s values, and participate in the safe and productive working environment as outlined by the General Manager.  The Boiler Engineer is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance all aspects of the Boiler on the premises to Kennebec Lumber Company’s Organizational standards. The operator is responsible for monitoring, adjusting, maintaining including preventative maintenance planning for the Boiler area.

Responsibilities: 

  • Optimize KLC Boiler systems for performance and reliability
  • Ensure operations meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards
  • Train and mentor Boiler operators
  • Communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Act as the escalation point for complex system failure
  • Operate biomass fuel-burning boiler or auxiliary system equipment in accordance with specifications or instructions.
  • Operate valves, pumps, engines, or generators to control and adjust production of biofuels or biomass-fueled power.
  • Operate equipment to heat biomass, using knowledge of controls, combustion, and firing mechanisms.
  • Operate equipment to start, stop, or regulate biomass-fueled generators, generator units, boilers, engines, or auxiliary systems.
  • Nightly water columns and blow downs
  • Sharpen chipper knives for the Chipper operator
  • Perform Grate raking duties
  • Ability to operate a front-end loader to load woodchips for plant
  • Hourly Rounds taking readings and equipment inspections
  • Inspect Boiler biomass power plant or processing equipment, recording or reporting damage and mechanical problems.
  • Cross Team Collaboration with managers/support staff
  • Develop and update Standard operating procedures (SOPs) as needed
  • Develop and sustain a preventative maintenance plan- to minimize downtime
  • Boiler Maintenance- Solve, diagnose, and repair complex technical issues along with basic mechanical issues.
  • Record and report operational data (readings on meters, instruments and gauges)
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation
  • All other tasks as assigned. 

Requirements: 

  • Ability to work a rotating schedule including- nights, weekends and holidays
  • Extensive knowledge of industrial boiler operations and maintenance
  • Ability to pass KLC boiler operator knowledge test upon interview
  • Preferred- Boiler Operator or Third-Class Stationary Steam Engineer license 
  • Preferred- ASME or AWS certification

  • Sit for extended periods of time
