Department:ย Claim Consulting Services Department

Job Summary: Responsible for providing exceptional claims and risk management customer service to construction industry clients of Conner Strong & Buckelew. The Claim Consulting Services Department services clients from disciplines including Construction, OCIP/CCIP (Wrap-ups), Manufacturing, Life Sciences, Public Entity, Education, Social Services, Hospitality & Gaming, Real Estate and Professional Services, with a primary focus on construction-related accounts.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Serve as an integral member of the client's construction claim & risk management team.
  • Act as a liaison between construction clients and carriers, wholesalers, and TPAs.
  • Develop and negotiate specific "Claim Service Plans" tailored to construction clients, including special claim servicing requirements unique to construction projects.
  • Build strong relationships with contractors, developers, public entities, and construction industry stakeholders.
  • Provide client advocacy to ensure optimal outcomes for construction claims.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of each construction claim for financial impact to client and company, including large verdict exposure claims and excess escalation.
  • Manage multiple lines of coverage for construction projects, including Builders Risk, General Liability, Auto Liability, Workers' Compensation, Property, Wrap-up claims (OCIP/CCIP), and more.
  • Act as subject matter expert on construction claims issues, including NY Labor Law 240/241, tender strategy, risk transfer, and traditional insured disputes.ย (See Ideal Experience below)
  • Work independently and make decisions based on advanced construction claims expertise.
  • Collaborate closely with Account Team members, Senior Account Executives, Account Executives, Account Managers, CSRs, and Production personnel.
  • Provide Account Team with pre-renewal and new business claim materials for construction accounts, including data analysis and wrap-up claim reporting.
  • Accompany Account Team members on prospect calls as needed for construction clients.
  • Position may require overnight travel, including site visits to construction projects.
  • Liaise for Conner Strong & Buckelew with carriers, wholesalers, TPAs, and outside vendors serving the construction industry.

Other Functions

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, coverage changes, and construction insurance developments.
  • Works on and manages special construction claims projects, including but not limited to OCIP/CCIP wrap-up
  • Update Claim Consultant Service Plan calendars.
  • Provide back-up support to other consultants as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Ideal Experience (Construction Focus)

  • NY Labor Law 240/241 claims management
  • Traditional insured dispute resolution in construction

Preferred Experience

  • 7+ years of property and casualty claims experience (brokerage, carrier, TPA, or law firm environment preferred)
  • Experience managing complex casualty claims, including general liability, auto liability, workers' compensation, and property losses
  • Construction claims experience strongly preferred (contractors, developers, builders risk, wrap-ups, OCIPs/CCIPs)
  • Strong knowledge of insurance policies, coverage interpretation, indemnity, additional insured issues, and risk transfer
  • Experience with litigated claims and collaboration with defense counsel
  • Ability to evaluate claim exposure, reserves, and settlement strategy
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced client-focused environment
  • Strong presentation skills and confidence interacting with senior client executives

  • Experience with large commercial construction accounts preferred

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of insurance industry experience in claims and/or risk management positions.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Must be flexible and available as needed to address urgent construction claims.
  • Must stay abreast of changes in the insurance industry and construction risk landscape.
  • Must be able to travel to construction sites as required.
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, and possess a positive attitude.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without Company sponsorship.

Specialized Knowledge or Licenses

  • Valid Property & Casualty License
  • Pursuit of Risk Management Degree, CPCU, AIC, CRIS, ARM designations preferred
  • Valid Driver's License

Compensation
Salary for this position ranges from $110,000.00 - $150,000.00. The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, and education. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
Qualifying positions will also be eligible for comprehensive benefits, such as participation in family medical and dental insurance programs, 401K plan, and PTO.
