COMPENSATION    
  • Civil Engineering Intern: $68,709.00 
     
RESPONSIBILITIES     
This position will support senior engineers in delivering timely and accurate Track Engineering assistance for MOW, Capital Construction, and C&D Projects. Responsibilities include work related to tracks, switches, third rail systems, ADA station modernization, and platform rehabilitation projects. Key tasks involve designing special trackwork, conducting field engineering surveys, providing construction support, reviewing shop drawings, evaluating first-article materials, and maintaining/updating Standard Track Drawings and Specifications for Track, Infrastructure, and Power Distribution Materials. Additionally, this role participates in derailment investigations and other track-related incidents. These tasks are crucial for ensuring the timely completion of track projects—whether in-house or through third-party contracts—and maintaining the safety of NYCT’s track system. 
 
*Please be advised this position is a night to overnight shift.      
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE    
  • A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college.    
 
DESIRED SKILLS     
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite and internet and mobile applications, as well as MicroStation and nonconformity databases. 
  • Knowledge of structural inspection of concrete and steel. 
  • Ability to read and write technical drawings and correspondence. 
  • In-depth knowledge of construction design and code issues covering multiple city agencies.     
 
SELECTION METHOD    
Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview. All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MABSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
