Job description

Are you pursuing a career in civil engineering, engineering technology, or computer-aided design and looking to apply your skills to real projects? Join Ruekert & Mielke, Inc. as a Civil 3D CAD Intern and gain hands-on experience supporting municipal infrastructure, agricultural, and site development projects that directly improve local communities.

As a Civil 3D CAD Intern, you'll assist with preparing and revising Civil 3D drawings, construction plans, exhibits, and other technical documents, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. This role offers exposure to cutting-edge design tools, involvement in meaningful projects, guidance and mentorship while working alongside engineers, designers, and experienced CAD professionals, and the experience of working in an employee-owned company that values innovation and growth.

Goals & Responsibilities

This position includes, but is not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist with creating, revising, and organizing Civil 3D drawings and engineering plan sets
  • Support drafting and design tasks for municipal infrastructure, agricultural, and site development projects
  • Incorporate engineer and designer comments, mark-ups, and design revisions
  • Assist with plan, profile, grading, utility, erosion control, and detail sheets, based on project needs and your experience
  • Create or update Civil 3D objects, such as surfaces, alignments, profiles, pipe networks, and corridors, under the direction of project staff
  • Prepare exhibits, details, drawing references, and supporting project documentation
  • Follow company CAD standards, file management practices, and project-specific requirements
  • Review drawings for completeness, consistency, and accuracy
  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, survey staff, and other project team members
  • Assist with preparing drawing packages and documents for client review, permitting, bidding, and construction


Qualifications & Skills

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following education, experience, and abilities:

  • Current enrollment in a Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, CAD/Drafting, or related program
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Interest in civil engineering design and drafting
  • Ability to follow established standards and incorporate feedback
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and mark-ups
