Position Description


The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for leading the design, reporting, engineering, and quality control of civil engineering projects from inception to completion in accordance with the project scope. Work will include the design and applicable permitting of site layouts, grading plans, utility systems, stormwater management, soil erosion and sedimentation control plans, and street improvements on a variety of projects including land development, infrastructure, and renewable energy for private and public clients. Work may also include grant and loan applications, rate studies, construction administration, traffic control, permitting, local, state, and federal compliance issues, reporting, and public relations/communication.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participate in and provide subject matter expertise during initial proposal and throughout entire project life cycle (kick off meeting, milestones, and final QA/QC review prior to submittal)
  • Lead engineering project quality assurance program; assist engineering department in achievement of quality improvement
  • Oversee all phases of the project from design through construction, including permitting, design, quality control and plan set review.
  • Make engineering design decisions independently
  • Serve as main point-of-contact for all project-related questions and concerns from internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead communication with contractors and subcontractors on all engineering tasks
  • Provide professional oversight, analyze, and review work of technical field and office staff
  • Review computations/measurements and interpret data made by others to verify the accuracy of data calculations
  • Investigate project errors and work closely with project managers and team members for prompt correction
  • Proactively manage design issues, budgetary concerns, and other project-related complications
  • Assist with preparation of proposals and cost estimates for new project opportunities
  • Direct and coordinate workloads with other project team members
  • Monitor and evaluate projects to ensure adherence to project specifications, budgets and standards
  • Determine project schedule by studying project plan and specifications, calculating time requirements, sequencing project elements
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting standards are maintained throughout the project(s) while adhering to Company standards and methodologies
  • Prepare contract documents and review/evaluate submitted bids for various projects as assigned
  • Control project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes, recommending actions
  • Recommend technical design or process changes to improve efficiency, quality, or performance
  • Serve as mentor and provide technical guidance/direction to all project team members
  • Maintain exceptional internal and external client relations
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or related field and/or equivalent combination of education & experience
  • PE license required
  • Minimum ten (10) years applicable experience
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to travel to the corporate office as well as local clients and project sites
  • Excellent concentration and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail
  • Exceptional written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams including technical and non-technical personnel
