Job description

Job Summary:
Air Space Intelligence is modernizing Americaโ€™s air traffic control system, tackling complex real-time optimization challenges. As a Software Engineer for the Civil Aviation team, you will design and build a backend system that will operate at the center of U.S. air travel, focusing on data fusion at operational scale to ensure safety and efficiency in the national airspace.
Responsibilities:
โ€ข Design and build a backend system for U.S. air travel.
โ€ข Ingest disparate, noisy, and potentially conflicting data streams and resolve them into a single, authoritative view of the world.
โ€ข Project the state of the system forward in time to enable optimization across competing conditions and constraints.
Qualifications:
Required:
โ€ข Experience building production-grade backend or distributed systems where strong design principles make the difference in maintainability, scalability, and performance.
โ€ข Proficiency in at least one modern programming language. We work in Rust and Python and expect you to have the foundation to quickly learn these languages.
โ€ข Experience with data integration, data storage, data processing, and data modeling systems.
โ€ข Experience with AWS and cloud-native architectures.
โ€ข Ability to work in complex, multi-system environments with evolving data models.
โ€ข Strong collaboration skills and comfort working across teams in a mission-critical environment.
โ€ข Proficient in leveraging modern LLM tools to accelerate development workflows and enhance code quality.
Preferred:
โ€ข Exposure to high-availability systems (e.g., 'four nines' reliability) is a strong plus.
โ€ข Domain experience in aviation, mapping, geospatial systems, or any field where the physical world is the source of truth and data is always an approximation of it is a strong plus.
Company:
ASI is an industry-proven, dual-use software company that enables success for the most complex operations, from critical infrastructure to defense. Founded in 2018, the company is headquartered in Boston, USA, with a team of 51-200 employees. The company is currently Growth Stage.
