IT Systems Engineer - Systems Administrator and Test Support
Contingent upon contract award and funding
Purpose:
  • Valkyrie Enterprises is seeking a versatile IT Systems Engineer - Systems Administrator and Test Support to support classified computing environments at Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme Division, Port Hueneme, California.
  • This hybrid role combines responsibilities of systems administrator and test engineer. The ideal candidate will maintain secure and compliant lab operations, administer Windows and Linux systems, and support AEGIS Weapon System (AWS) and Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) tactical software installation and maintenance. In addition, candidate will assist with Combat System test and evaluation events by operating systems and assisting with test procedure development and validation.

Job Description:
Systems Administration:
  • Manage Windows and Linux systems in classified lab environments.
  • Perform software and hardware installation, configuration, patching, troubleshooting, and lifecycle maintenance.
  • Work with various activities in the support of maintenance of the hardware and software.
  • Maintain hardware, firmware, and software baselines across lab assets.
  • Monitor and address hardware obsolescence in support of development programs.
  • Coordinate with customer for configuration changes, acquisition of equipment, and decommissioning/disposal processes.
  • Provide user support for engineering, development, and test teams operating in lab environments by maintaining hardware and loading various software builds prior to events.
  • Develop automation scripts and tools using Python to optimize maintenance, security, and DevSecOps processes.
  • Maintain secure network configurations and lab infrastructure in accordance with DoD policies.

Test and Evaluation Responsibilities
  • Support test events by operating various Combat System elements.
  • Support development and validation of test and evaluation procedures.
  • Review various weapon system documentation to gain knowledge of systems under test.

Qualifications:
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, or equivalent experience and at least 3 years of experience.
  • Must have experience administering Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Must have experience with hypervisors (ESXI is preferred) and VM managers (vSphere is preferred).
  • Must have python scripting experience for automation and operational tooling.
  • Must have familiarity with networks and network security fundamentals (firewalls, zero trust, encryption).

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with Department of War weapons systems, preferred.
  • Experience managing classified laboratory environments, preferred.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerization technologies, preferred.
  • Experience with collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, Teams), preferred.
  • Experience with OS patching, hardenting, STTIGs and vulnerability remediation, preferred.

Security Requirements:
  • Must have Active Secret clearance (or ability to obtain) and the ability to maintain it.

Travel Requirements:
  • Minimal Travel; 10% or less
  • If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Able to sit and work on a computer for long periods of time
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another

  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds
