Your Opportunity
Stantec is a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting. We are actively seeking a Civil Engineer with experience in water resource projects, stormwater infrastructure, community resiliency and/or related civil works projects to be a member of our multi-disciplinary team as well as a leader and mentor within our Alabama team.
In this position, you will be an integral part of our established and talented multi-disciplinary team, helping to lead the growth of our team within Alabama and the northern Gulf. Key responsibility will include assisting with business development, managing engineering and design efforts, and mentoring junior staff while working collaboratively to deliver quality projects for our clients.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as office co-leader and mentor to junior staff in our Alabama offices.
  • Co-lead our business development and client relations activities, primarily in the Alabama and northern Gulf-coast markets.
  • Assist in the management and implementation of small to large scale community resiliency, stormwater, water supply, wastewater, and civil engineering and design projects, of varying degrees of complexity, through all phases of a project lifecycle.
  • Serve as a local technical lead, interfacing directly with clients, engaging local and remote staff, and interacting with permitting agencies and partnering consulting firms in the execution of projects.
  • Schedule, conduct, coordinate, and monitor field logistics for projects in both an urban and rural setting.
  • Assist in the management of multiple projects/task orders simultaneously.
  • Assist and/or lead the development of project/task order objectives, procedures, and performance standards.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams in the preparation of technical drawings, plan sets and reports.
  • Identify appropriate resources and skill sets to achieve project/task order objectives.
  • Track and manage costs and schedules and implement measures necessary to stay on schedule and within budget.
  • Lead by example with active support of internal policies and practices, including safety, risk management, project management, and quality management.
  • Ensure compliance with project plan and procedures.
  • Provide mentoring and training of junior staff.
  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships, including seeking opportunities for new business.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with local subconsultants and partner firms.
  • Assist and/or lead the development of proposals and contract negotiation.
  • Assist and/or lead the development of project scopes, budgets, and design approach for projects.

Support marketing and business development professionals in positioning for potential projects, writing technical portions of proposals, participating in client interviews and supporting negotiations for project contracts.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Experience with water supply, wastewater, civil engineering, and similar projects.
  • Experience with community resiliency projects, such as adaptive stormwater management, LID design, green infrastructure, and similar projects.
  • Working knowledge of hydrology, stormwater management, water quality issues, and ecology, as well as experience in wetland delineation/mitigation design.
  • Experience in FEMA Risk Map and/or floodplain/watershed studies is a plus.
  • Experience with designing ecological restoration projects, including coastal, estuarine, aquatic, rivers & streams, and/or wetlands restoration project is a plus.
  • Experience in all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Experience serving as a member of and/or leading multi-disciplinary teams during all phases of project document production.
  • Demonstrated creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
  • Strong presentation and interview skills.
  • Experience in the preparation of proposals and marketing efforts is a plus.
  • Experience interacting directly with Clients.
  • Experience mentoring staff on engineering design, calculations, and development of technical specifications.
  • Experience using CADD.
  • Experience assisting with the preparation of plans, schedules for detailed phases of engineering work for civil, environmental, and coastal projects.
  • Experience assisting with the preparation of cost and project estimates, job budgets and schedules.
  • Experience assisting with the preparation of engineering, design, and modelling and/or reviewing design and drafting work.
  • Familiarity with the permitting process and environmental regulations.
  • Working understanding of policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (as required).
  • Must have a good driving record and valid driver's license.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in civil or environmental engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Alabama or a Licensed Professional Engineer by another state with the ability to obtain an Alabama PE License within 3 months of hiring.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience which must include relevant experience in an engineering role in civil, water resource and/or stormwater management projects.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave.
