The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to join our Southeast regional team, with flexibility to be based in Atlanta, GA, Cocoa, FL, Jacksonville, FL, or work remotely within the Southeast United States.
Why Tetra Tech:
At Tetra Tech, we are Leading with Science to solve the world's most complex challenges. Our science-based planning and design improves lives in our local communities and around the world.
What Sets This Role Apart:
This is a chance to step into a high-impact role on a team that is already delivering some of the most technically advanced environmental-focused water resources work in the Southeast. The work spans municipal, state, and federal clients and includes projects that influence policy, improve resilience, and set the standard for smart stormwater design.
Recent work includes:
  • Supporting Gwinnett County, Georgia on forward-looking stormwater initiatives that advance flood resilience, water supply resiliency, and environmental performance through stormwater manual development, BMP monitoring guidance, ordinance review and revision, BMP construction inspection training, and the design of demonstration projects, stream restoration, wetland enhancement, and green stormwater infrastructure.

  • Leading water resources engineering design and permitting efforts for multiple Florida counties, including countywide stormwater master planning, flood modeling, engineering design, construction plans and specifications, permit applications, and support for coastal and inland wetland restoration and habitat enhancement projects.

  • Providing low-impact development and green stormwater infrastructure planning, along with watershed management and on-call stormwater services for municipalities throughout the Southeast.

  • Supporting state agencies and counties on dam safety projects that range from visual dam inspections and detailed hydrologic and hydraulic modeling to safety and integrity evaluations, rehabilitation design, and emergency action planning.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a Water Resources Engineer to join our interdisciplinary Southeast team, which specializes in planning, engineering, and design solutions for projects focused on green stormwater infrastructure, water quality and quantity, dam assessments and rehabilitation design, and community resiliency. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
  • take ownership of key technical tasks and project deliverables,

  • contribute to complex, high-visibility projects,

  • collaborate with experienced engineers and planners,

  • expand your technical depth, and

  • grow into increased leadership and client-facing responsibility.

This position is well suited for a mid-level engineer who is looking for a role with both technical challenge and career growth.
Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:
  • Lead or support water resources infrastructure projects, including green stormwater infrastructure, low impact development, and dam assessments and rehabilitation design.

  • Develop technical designs and prepare construction and bid documents, including plans, specifications, and cost-benefit analyses.

  • Analyze water quality and watershed data using GIS and statistical methods, creating detailed charts, maps, and reports to communicate findings.

  • Coordinate with internal team members and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality deliverables through effective quality control and assurance processes.

  • Provide technical guidance and informal mentoring to junior engineers, designers, and interns.

  • Participate in business development efforts, including client relationship building, proposal development, and identification of new opportunities.

  • Prepare memos, technical reports, presentations, and other project documentation in support of planning, design, and permitting efforts.

  • Contribute to project execution with increasing ownership, accountability, and technical leadership over time.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or civil engineering.

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant water resources engineering experience, with a strong foundation in stormwater design and watershed management.

  • An active Professional Engineer (PE) certification in Georgia or Florida (or the ability to gain licensure within six months of hire).

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and ArcGIS, along with experience using modeling software such as StormWise (formerly ICPR), PCSWMM, and HEC-RAS.

  • Proven analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through education and professional experience.

  • Experience preparing and delivering client presentations, with a focus on municipal or other public-sector clients.

  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, and an eagerness to learn additional design and analysis software as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in civil engineering or environmental engineering.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to travel for site visits and client meetings as needed; travel is estimated at up to 10% annually, including occasional overnight travel.

  • Ability to stand and walk during site visits and inspections.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Ability to lift and carry materials or equipment up to 25 pounds.

  • Ability to sit at a workstation and work on a computer for extended periods.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, surveys, plan sets, and reports.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and through electronic means.

Additional Information:
  • For this role, we are open to hybrid work schedules in our Atlanta, GA, Cocoa, FL, or Jacksonville, FL offices, or remote work schedules within the southeast United States region.

  • This is a full-time position, typically 40 hours per week, with standard hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. Additional hours may be required based on project needs.
