Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Help plan and develop designs for transportation facilities for private, commercial, and public sector clients.
  • Collaborates with clients, utility companies, government agencies, and/or the general public to identify project constraints and develop design alternatives and concepts for transportation improvement projects.
  • Develops and presents design study reports in accordance with government agency criteria.
  • Prepares plans, specifications, and engineer's estimates for construction of:
    • roadways, trails, airport surfaces, traffic signals, and non-motorized transportation systems.
    • roadway/airport resurfacing and rehabilitation projects.
  • Collects traffic data and performs traffic studies and analysis.
  • Works with permitting agency staff to meet local code requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of civil engineering concepts and practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with Municipality of Anchorage, State of Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • Licensed engineer-in-training.
  • Proficient AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with multi-discipline engineering staff at various experience levels.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
