Job description

As a member of Garver's growing Water Design Center, the Senior Structural Engineer will be responsible for developing structural designs in support of water and wastewater treatment projects and related facilities. The Senior Structural Engineer will lead a project team of junior engineers, designers, and technicians to produce plans and specifications and manage workload on various Water Business Line projects.
This role in the Water Design Center will consist of providing structural support as required for a variety of water and wastewater projects, but the majority of the expected assignments will be related to developing structural designs for new water and wastewater treatments plants or improvements to existing water and wastewater treatment facilities.
This position will be responsible for performing numerous structural design tasks related to water and wastewater facilities, such as:
  • Leading a project team producing structural designs for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, lift stations, tanks, vaults, and other ancillary structures associated with water and sewer infrastructure projects
  • Typical designs will include treatment process basins, chemical facilities, administration buildings, retaining walls, and other supporting structures.
  • The structural group will be responsible for the structural design calculations, coordination with other disciplines, coordination with regional offices and regulating agencies, construction cost estimating, and quality assurance and control.
  • Assist the Structural Group Leader in managing and mentoring teams, coordinating schedules, monitoring budgets, and ensuring delivery of quality work products that adhere to Garver standards.
  • Some travel may be required, as projects may require field work for site assessment of project locations and support during construction.

Primary responsibilities of the Senior Structural Engineer will include:
  • Leading a project team in the production of structural designs with a great deal of autonomy
  • Quality program compliance, including ensuring delivery of quality work products that adhere to Garver standardization
  • Work within a multi-disciplined team (civil, process, mechanical, electrical, and I&C) of engineers, designers, and Technicians in the development of various Water Business Line projects
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Time management and work product quality
  • Mentor, equip, train, develop, and engage junior team members to become effective design professionals and undertake increasingly more complex assignments and responsibilities as they grow

Due to the collaborative nature of coordination for large infrastructure projects, candidates must have the ability to seek out and resolve issues through close interaction with other project team members. In addition, the candidate must be able to maintain a positive team attitude and interpersonal effectiveness to recruit, develop and maintain an efficient and productive structural team.
About Garver's Water Design Center:
The Water Design Center (WDC) is a knowledge-based hub that excels in highly technical, multi-discipline water and wastewater designs. This integral working relationship benefits the client through project delivery schedule and design quality, as well as opportunity for team collaboration and professional growth.
Requirements:
The successful candidate for this role with Garver will possess the following minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • 10 or more years of technical experience
  • Technically competent in structural engineering design in concrete, masonry, and structural steel
  • Proven experience overseeing structural designs, including detailed plans and specifications for major projects
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Ability to obtain PE registration in Arkansas and other states of practice
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong teaching and coaching skills to bring new team members up to speed

Preferred Skills:
  • Master's degree in civil or structural engineering
  • Registered Structural Engineer (SE)
  • Understanding of the structural complexities associated with water and wastewater treatment equipment
  • Experience using Bluebeam
