Job description

Join Our Team as a Utility Technician

Join the City of Fair Oaks Ranch as a Full-Time Utility Technician and put your skills to work supporting the essential water and wastewater services our community depends on every day. This onsite position offers an exciting opportunity to perform meaningful, hands-on work in a professional and team-oriented environment.

With an annual salary of $42,886, you will be rewarded for your hard work, reliability, and commitment to public service. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, a Flexible Spending Account, Paid Time Off, and participation in the Texas Municipal Retirement System, with a 7% mandatory employee contribution and a 2:1 City match.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who values safety, integrity, teamwork, and serving the community.

City of Fair Oaks Ranch: Our Mission

The City of Fair Oaks Ranch is a vibrant Hill Country community located just northwest of San Antonio, combining small-town charm with convenient access to urban amenities. We take pride in providing exceptional public service, practicing fiscal responsibility, and preserving the natural beauty and unique character of our city.

As an employer, we foster a collaborative and professional work environment where innovation, integrity, and excellent service are valued. Join our dedicated team and become part of a community that values both its people and its progress.

What's Your Day Like?

As a Utility Technician, no two days will be exactly the same. You will help construct, operate, maintain, and repair the City's water distribution and wastewater collection and treatment systems.

Your responsibilities may include inspecting and maintaining wells, reservoirs, pumping stations, meters, hydrants, chlorination equipment, and other utility infrastructure. You may assist with repairing water mains, installing service connections and valves, flushing hydrants, operating wastewater pump stations, and maintaining treatment plant equipment.

The position also involves pavement cutting, ditch digging, pipe installation and repair, backfilling, grounds maintenance, meter reading, and operating construction equipment such as dump trucks, skid steers, compactors, pumps, compressors, and backhoes. Because utility emergencies can occur outside regular working hours, you will also participate in a rotational on-call schedule.

This is a physically active, field-based position, with most work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions. Safety, attention to detail, teamwork, and dependable service are essential every day.

Are You the Utility Technician We're Looking For?

The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable performing physically demanding work in an outdoor environment. You should be able to follow written and verbal instructions, communicate effectively with coworkers and the public, and work collaboratively as part of a crew.

Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and experience using common hand tools, power tools, vehicles, and construction equipment will help you succeed in this position.

Minimum qualifications include:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two years of experience related to construction, maintenance, or repair
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods
  • Ability to work safely around mechanical, electrical, chemical, confined-space, and other field-related hazards
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials and equipment
Your Next Step

Are you ready to build a rewarding career while helping provide safe and reliable utility services to the Fair Oaks Ranch community? Submit your application today and take the next step toward joining our dedicated Utilities team.
