Responsibilities
 
What You'll Do: 
  • Learns fundamental concepts and practices used in water treatment, including equipment operation and minor maintenance.
  • Performs routine inspections and maintenance on a variety of water treatment plant equipment and facilities.
  • Assists in the operation of water treatment plant and pumping facilities.
  • Progressively assumes more responsibility for monitoring equipment and plant operations.
  • Develops skills in evaluating treatment processes and plant performance.
  • Assists with process control activities to achieve optimum system performance.
  • Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
 
REQUIRES 
  • High School Graduation 
  • Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies 
  • Six (6) months after date of hire, must obtain D-level operator certification in water/wastewater issued by Missouri Department of Natural Resources
  • Three (3) years after date of hire, must obtain C-level operator certification in water/wastewater issued by Missouri Department of Natural Resources
  • Ability to pass a physical examination, preemployment drug screen, and background check as prescribed by the City

Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical. 

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
