Position Summary
The Library Assistant provides frontline library support by staffing service areas, assisting with circulation, technical services, acquisitions, and collection maintenance activities, and ensuring consistent library operations. This position also supports students, faculty, and staff by enforcing College and Library policies, maintaining library services, and providing excellent customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities
Library Operations
โข Staff the circulation desk and perform circulation services in accordance with College and department procedures.
โข Register library users and maintain patron accounts.
โข Troubleshoot user access to library resources and coordinate with FLVC as needed.
โข Maintain circulation statistics and records.
โข Perform library opening and closing procedures.
โข Maintain the security of circulation and staff-only areas.
โข Assist with circulation, technical services, acquisitions, and collection maintenance functions.
โข Ensure library service areas are adequately staffed to provide continuous service coverage.
Customer Service and Student Support
โข Answer directional and informational questions and refer research inquiries to the librarian on duty.
โข Provide basic computer assistance, including Microsoft Office applications, the College portal, Canvas, and library resources.
โข Report technology issues involving computers, printers, software, or network connectivity to Information Technology or the Campus Library Manager.
โข Assist librarians in maintaining a productive and scholarly library environment.
โข Explain and enforce College, Library, and Learning Resources policies and procedures.
Department Support
โข Participate in library outreach and engagement activities as assigned.
โข Communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors to ensure continuity of library services.
โข Perform additional duties as assigned by the Campus Library Manager or Dean of Learning Resources.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
โข High school diploma or acceptable equivalency diploma required.
โข Associate degree preferred.
โข Customer service and office experience required; library experience preferred.
โข Two professional references required.
โข Must successfully complete a background check and employment/reference verification.

โข Ability to maintain confidentiality of library and student records.
โข Strong verbal and written communication skills.
โข Ability to communicate professionally with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
โข Ability to learn and apply College, departmental, and FLVC policies and procedures.
โข Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
โข Ability to learn and effectively use library management systems and Banner.
โข Working knowledge of or ability to learn Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Chrome, and other library-related software.
โข Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
โข Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
โข Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators.
โข Ability to work evenings and weekends as assigned.
โข Ability to attend required training.
โข Ability to perform assigned duties independently after an appropriate training period.
Ergonomic Requirements
โข Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
โข Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
โข Ability to bend, kneel, and use step stools to shelve and retrieve library materials.
โข Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist movements associated with computer use and library processing tasks such as labeling, taping, and cutting materials.
