The work involves conducting construction inspections of a variety of public works, public utilities, and private development projects within or on behalf of the City, including public contract management duties. Successful performance requires the application of precise engineering knowledge gained through training and experience. Although advice is generally available, employees in this class are expected to exercise independent judgment in solving field and office problems.

An Associate's degree in civil engineering, construction management, construction technology or related field preferred. Three years of experience in construction activities and/or inspection of public works, public utilities, and private development projects. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR CERTIFICATIONS Possession of a valid, unrestricted (corrected lenses allowed) driver license at the date of hire, and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid, unrestricted Washington State Driver License within 30 days of hire.

LATE, INCOMPLETE, FAXED, OR EMAILED APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. EXAMINATION STEPS There will be a pre-screening of all applications. Responses to the supplemental questionnaire and the resume will be reviewed together to generate a single combined score, which will be blind-rated and weighted at 10%.

Top-scoring applicants will be called to an oral panel interview (weighted 90%). All vacancies in this job class will be filled from the ranked Civil Service register established from the examination process for 12 months. IMPORTANT NOTES A passing grade of 70.00 or higher is required on all parts of the screening process for placement on the ranked Civil Service eligible register

The examination process is designed to sample and measure the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. Applicants claiming veterans' preference points in accordance with RCW 41.04.010 as amended and meeting eligibility criteria must submit form DD214, or its equivalent or successor discharge paperwork, that characterizes his or her service as qualifying discharge as defined in RCW 73.04.005.
