As an Electrical Inspector (EI), you represent the Building Official in the field, performing inspections and plan reviews, including writing field correction memos and/or letters to customers
The EI inspects, evaluates, and approves electrical installations in commercial, industrial, and residential structures and premises, including multi-family dwellings, ensuring compliance with the Oregon Electrical Specialty Code. EIs independently interpret code and prepare reports and recommendations while working under the supervision of the field inspection supervisor. Classification: Electrical Inspector Salary: $40.78- $50.81 hourly / $84,822.40 - $105,684.80 annually The City of Eugene determines starting pay within the range based on relevant education and experience as provided by the applicant in their application materials

Examples of Duties Performed - Duties may include but are not limited to the following Conducts field inspections and plans review in one code specialty, including writing field correction memos and/or letters to customers. Handles code conflict resolution in the field.
Works to resolve conflicts, thinking through results of action selected. Assists in coordination of inspections with other employees. Assists customers, contractors, homeowners, architects, engineers, and designers in the field, on the telephone, or at the counter interpreting construction codes.
Assists with initial enforcement of State and local regulations by documenting violations in the field and following up to verify corrections for cases in the inspector's assigned area. May assist Building & Permit Services Division management in enforcement cases. May appear in court as a witness.
Supports and respects diversity in the workplace. Uses a City-owned vehicle to travel to various City owned and non-City owned locations. Performs related and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Experience/Education: Continuing education as required for all applicable certifications must be current. Certifications: Current Oregon inspector Certification (OIC) or ability to obtain within 1 year of the date hired is required Current Oregon Electrical Specialty Code Inspector (EI) or ability to obtain within 1 year of the date hired is required Licenses: General Journeyman Electrician Electrical Supervisor License is preferred but not required Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Regular and sustained performance of moderate physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and or lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of moderately heavy objects. Ability to Lift up to 25 pounds; occasionally exert a force up to 60 pounds.
Requires visual acuity in near/mid/far ranges and color vision. May risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery vibrations, construction hazards and potentially hazardous chemicals. Ideal candidates have the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of: Construction practices, materials and standards.
State and local building and land use codes and regulations. Ability to: Interpret building electrical plans and specifications. Identify electrical code deficiencies resulting from faulty design or construction and explain remedial work required.
Demonstrate reasonable judgment in application of the code. Understand intent of the code and be able to communicate this to the public. Understand provisions for alternates in the code.
Operate a computer and conduct electronic plan reviews or have ability to learn. Use routine arithmetic functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Write clearly and concisely with use of good grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Gather, weigh facts and draw well thought out conclusions related to applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Work independently and establish methods of accomplishing assignments. Organize daily work and set up own inspection route.
Deliver excellent customer service and maintain positive customer relations. Use conflict management skills such as active listening, non-defensive communication style, paraphrasing, and empathy to resolve problems effectively. Establish and maintain respectful and effective working relations with other employees, City and local officials, building owners, engineers, architects, designers, contractors and the public.
Background Must pass a background check. Physical Must pass a physical assessment. Oregon driver's license, or ability to obtain by date of hire; must pass driving records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City's standard.
Oregon law requires that an out-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license (with appropriate endorsements) within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state (ORS 803.355). Supplemental Information Bilingual Pay Benefit Per the AFSCME contract, the City shall pay an employee an additional 5% for a required intermediate or advanced level competency. To qualify for bilingual pay, the employee must have demonstrated fluency in the required language and successfully pass a fluency examination administered by the City's Employee Resource Center division. What to Expect from our Selection Process Applicants are screened based upon their relevant knowledge, abilities, skills, experience, and training.
The selection process varies according to the position and can include such things as screening of supplemental questionnaires, written or skill tests, ability or fitness tests, interviews, and assessment processes. In addition, background investigations and records checks may be required.
