What is a city in the USA?

A city in the USA is an urban area that has been incorporated and recognized by the state government, usually with its own local government and administrative powers. Cities can vary greatly in size, population, and services offered. They typically have elected officials such as a mayor and city council, and are responsible for providing services like policing, public works, and zoning regulations. The process for a community to become a city is determined by state laws, and cities often have more autonomy than towns or villages.
