Depending on the applicant's qualifications, the position will be filled at the appropriate level/salary of either: Wastewater Maintenance Technician I $32.2649- $40.2945 Hourly $60,400.00 - $75,431.00 Annually Wastewater Maintenance Technician II $36.5048 - $45.5895 Hourly $68,337.00 - $85,344.00 Annually DEFINITION Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the upkeep, maintenance, and repair of sewer collection system and lift stations; and generally the duties conducted by the Utility Maintenance Worker series for the City of Norco. Examples of Duties Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledges, skills and other characteristics. Repairs and maintains sewer collection systems, mains, laterals, manholes, lift stations, metering stations, pressure lines and related structures; loads and unloads trucks; operates and performs preventive maintenance on pumps, valves and related lift station equipment. Flushes and clears collection systems; operates hand, jet and machine rods to clear lines; applies herbicides, foams and other chemicals to de-root, degrease and unstop lines; installs and removes flow meters. Operates service truck to respond to customer complaints; determines source of problem; clears lines or reports work needed; advises customer if problem is not the City's responsibility; pumps flooded areas.

Observes safe work methods and safety precautions related to the work; flags and cones work sites for traffic control; shores trenches, operates pipe location and gas detection equipment; uses appropriate safety devices and equipment. Operates and maintains a wide variety of hand and power tools related to the work, including tampers, breaking guns, jackhammers, etc. Operates a variety of trucks and equipment, including jet and machine rudders, etc.; inspects vehicles and performs minor maintenance; reports needed repairs

Estimates and secures tools, materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments; prepares and maintains a variety of written records and reports related to work performed. Trains less experienced staff and leads the work of assigned staff. Performs other tasks/functions deemed necessary to the daily operation of the City.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS This is a general employee position in the Public Works Department. This position performs a variety of sewer collections duties as well as general Utility Maintenance Worker responsibilities. Knowledge: Knowledge of federal, state and City sewer collections requirements and monitoring systems; installation, maintenance and repair of pump motors, electrical panels and sewer lift station facilities.

Knowledge of S.C.A.D.A. monitoring and control system operation; Knowledge of procurement and handling of hazardous chemicals. Ability: Some knowledge and skill in maintaining water wells, pumps and water treatment facilities; sampling and testing drinking water

Ability to communicate with professionalism, courtesy and tact. Ability to use proper English language including spelling, grammar and punctuation. Ability to use computer hardware, software and peripherals related to area assigned.

Typical Qualifications QUALIFICATION GUIDLINES The knowledge and abilities which are required to perform the duties and responsibilities of this class are as follows: WASTEWATER MAINTENANCE TECH I Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Operations and Maintenance of Wastewater Collection System Certification (State Office of Water Programs). Experience: One year of sewer collections work experience including experience in confined space entry, atmospheric monitoring, fall restraint and confined space rescue.

Licenses/Certifications: Valid California Class A Commercial Driver's License required within 12 months of hire date. The City will provide third-party training for each employee (after 6 months from hire date) to obtain the Class A License required for the position. Ability to obtain the California Water Environment Association, Sewer Collection Grade I certification within one (1) year of appointment.

Ability to obtain State Water Resources Control Board, Water Distribution Operator Grade I certification within one (1) year of appointment. . Knowledge: Knowledge of federal, state and City sewer collections requirements and monitoring systems; installation, maintenance and repair of pump motors, electrical panels and sewer lift station facilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sit for extended periods of time; have hearing and vision within normal ranges; carry, push, reach and lift repeatedly up to 100 pounds; occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch; sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment; walk on uneven terrain; work in an outdoor environment with possible exposure to extreme weather conditions, moving equipment, heavy equipment, moving traffic, dust, noise, toxic fumes and chemicals, infectious diseases, air and water borne pathogens and other potentially hazardous substances; stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb; work in confined spaces; work in trenches and elevated areas. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must meet CAL-OSHA respiratory facemask requirements. Must be willing to assume responsibility for 24-hour operations in assigned area of responsibility or to respond to emergency situations in off hours as required using SCADA or directly onsite.

Employees are enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) government Employer Pull Notice Program. Class A drivers are enrolled in the Department of Transportation (DOT) random drug testing program. Supplemental Information EMERGENCY SERVICES: All City employees are required to perform assigned Emergency Service duties in the event of an emergency or disaster.

Employee must complete required FEMA courses within six months of employment.
