How much do cism jobs pay per year?
What is a CISM?
What jobs can I get with a CISM certification?
CISM stands for Certified Information Security Manager. CISM certification provides access to a variety of jobs, most of which focus on information security, governance, and risk analysis. In this field, you may help assess the digital security needs of your employer's data projects, review existing security measures, and propose new defenses to counter developing threats. You may also be required to study for other exam processes to stay current with security techniques and emerging technology. Most jobs that require CISM certification are relatively senior positions that only hire people who already have several years of industry experience, so certification alone may not be enough to qualify you a security position.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), and why are they important?
What are some common challenges faced by CISMs when implementing information security policies across different departments?
What is the difference between Cism vs CISSP?
| Criteria | Cism | CISSP |
|---|---|---|
| Certifications | Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) | Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) |
| Focus | Information security management and governance | Broad cybersecurity knowledge and security architecture |
| Work Environment | Security management roles, policy development | Security analyst, architect, consultant roles |
| Industry Usage | Organizations emphasizing security management | Organizations requiring comprehensive security expertise |
The Cism and CISSP certifications are both highly valued in cybersecurity but serve different roles. Cism focuses on security management and governance, ideal for those leading security teams. CISSP covers a broad range of security topics, suitable for technical and strategic roles. Understanding these differences helps professionals choose the right certification for their career path.

Are you enthusiastic about being a team player in one of the most fascinating industries in the world? At MGM Resorts, we seek individuals like YOU to create unique and show-stopping experiences for our guests.
THE JOB:
The Information Security Business Solution Architect (BSA) partners with business stakeholders to understand security needs and collaborates across Cybersecurity, Risk & Compliance, Enterprise Architecture, and Identity & Access Management teams to design solutions that are secure by design. Acting as the bridge between business innovation and technical resilience, the BSA translates complex security requirements into actionable plans, aligns security standards with strategic initiatives, and serves as the "voice of the customer" within the security organization. This role drives and supports product development and implementation, advocates for high-performing security solutions that enable business growth, and provides executive oversight for the delivery of projects, products, and standards. Additionally, the BSA ensures compliance with regulatory frameworks such as SOX, PCI-DSS, and Gaming regulations, delivering scalable, industry-aligned solutions that safeguard the organization's reputation and operational integrity.
THE DAY-TO-DAY:
- Serve as the primary liaison between Information Security, business units, COEs, and third-party vendors, translating business requirements into functional and technical solutions that support commercial objectives while acting as a trusted advisor on strategic initiatives.
- Champion the enterprise Information Security strategy by aligning product vision, roadmap, and long-term strategy with business goals, enterprise architecture standards, and regulatory/security requirements.
- Proactively identify security gaps and improvement opportunities, leveraging risk-based reporting and trend analysis to shape risk posture, strengthen adoption, and keep LOB leadership informed of emerging threats and industry developments.
- Maintain deep awareness of the IT and threat landscape-including applications, infrastructure, and external-facing environments-to effectively manage risk and coordinate internal and external security assessments.
- Establish and track product KPIs, dashboards, and reporting cadences to ensure transparency into performance, adoption, value realization, and overall control effectiveness.
- Lead product optimization efforts, including consolidation, automation, and rationalization initiatives to reduce technical debt, enhance user experience, and improve operational efficiency.
- Develop and deliver executive- and board-level communications to drive alignment, informed decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration across Security, Legal, Risk, Surveillance, and other key stakeholders.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems/Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with 8+ years of progressive experience across multiple information security disciplines.
- Strong knowledge of IT governance and compliance frameworks, including IT General Controls, PCI-DSS, SOX, and Gaming MICS, with relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, and/or CISA highly desired.
- Proven experience designing, deploying, supporting, and communicating enterprise Information Security solutions in collaboration with business stakeholders and vendors; industry experience in hospitality or gaming preferred.
- Demonstrated success defining and executing multi-year product roadmaps for enterprise platforms, balancing technical debt, regulatory requirements, security controls, and business innovation.
- Exceptional ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business language, influence cross-functional stakeholders in matrixed environments, and deliver executive-level communications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, perform under pressure, and drive continuous process improvement.
- Solid technical foundation, including knowledge of networking concepts and communication protocols, and a proven track record of delivering and supporting increasingly complex solutions across the full product lifecycle.
THE PERKS & BENEFITS:
- Wellness incentive programs to help you stay healthy physically and mentally
- Access to company hotel, food and beverage, retail, and entertainment discounts as well as discounts with company partners on things like travel, electronics, online shopping, and more
- Free meals in our employee dining room
