What is a cinema?

Cinema jobs refer to the various roles involved in operating a movie theater or working in the film exhibition industry. These positions can include ticket sellers, ushers, projectionists, concession stand workers, managers, and cleaners. Each role helps ensure that moviegoers have a smooth and enjoyable experience. Cinema staff are responsible for customer service, maintaining the theater environment, and sometimes handling technical aspects like running the film projector or managing digital screenings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a cinema manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cinema Manager, you need strong leadership, organizational skills, and experience in retail or hospitality management, often supported by a relevant degree or diploma. Familiarity with ticketing systems, point-of-sale (POS) software, and scheduling tools is essential. Exceptional customer service, problem-solving ability, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for success in this role. These skills ensure smooth daily operations, a positive guest experience, and effective team management in a fast-paced entertainment environment.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in a cinema environment?

Professionals in cinema environments often encounter challenges such as managing large crowds during peak showtimes, ensuring technical equipment (like projectors and sound systems) operates smoothly, and delivering excellent customer service while addressing guest concerns. Team members must also work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate show schedules. Collaborating effectively with colleagues is essential to maintain smooth operations, handle ticketing, concessions, and resolve any unexpected issues that arise during screenings.

Job description

About Us

Rooftop Cinema Club started in 2011 as a single rooftop in London and has expanded globally with 11 venues across the US and UK. We are looking to grow our presence in the US with 15 + new rooftop venues projected over the next 3 years.

We are on a mission to change the way people experience open-air cinema. We transform nights at the movies with sunsets & starlit evenings, stunning views, friends, loved ones, awesome drink & food and great movies on the big screen. Our purpose is to create magical and memorable movie moments that change people’s lives for the better. We like to think of it as…Love, Peace and Great Film.

We are looking for Box Office Crew Members to join us in creating magical and memorable movie moments.

It’s your job to set the tone and atmosphere for guests and other team members, making sure everyone is ready for an enjoyable evening under the stars.

A day in the life of one of our Box Office Crew Members

You arrive at our venue, check in with the team and your manager and get the show going. You run through the opening checklist (opening the kiosks, starting up the POS systems, getting the popcorn popping, ensuring all tech is ready and our items are stocked and ready to be served, and make sure the guest information packs are ready to go). Then it’s time to start welcoming guests! You are the first point of contact for all guests, so it's your responsibility to set a fun and caring tone in all guest interactions. You will check e-tickets at the box office, help get guests comfortable in their seats, and make sure they know that they can come to you for help.

Who You Are:

  • Love working in teams
  • Are high energy
  • Great communicator
  • Natural born leader
  • Have a friendly and helpful attitude

Key Tasks:

  • Preparing popcorn (full training provided)
  • Ringing up concessions items
  • Checking guests tickets, and walking them through the key elements of our experience
  • Talking to guests, being friendly and helping them enjoy their evening
  • Cleaning and closing the venue kiosks securely at the end of the night

Terms:

  • $18.50 p/h rate, 20-35 hours per week
  • Standard Open Hours for shifts: 1pm-1am
