What You'll Be Doing

As a member of the Commodities Trading team, you will work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the trading desk's operations and assisting in trading and managing risk positions. You will:

  • Learn about the trading of commodities and support the trading staff across all commodity products, including energy, metals, agriculture, and index products.

  • Support desk operations, including end-of-day, end-of-month, and end-of-year processes, and help automate these processes using Python and VBA.

  • Contribute to the growth of the business by assisting in the onboarding of new products through established risk assessment and onboarding processes.

  • Gain a deep understanding of the commodities markets and develop subject matter expertise in trading to support staff and client transactions.

  • Develop trading analytics and strategies, leveraging programming and statistical analysis.

  • Engage with clients to understand their priorities, provide solutions, and offer forward-looking financial plans.

  • Participate in marketing and outreach activities to grow your network and deepen relationships.

How You'll Succeed:

  • Risk Management: Support the trading desk in risk management of commodities positions. Grow into a role where you will be relied upon to quote and trade commodities risk from clients.

  • Collaboration: Work with stakeholders in middle and back office to ensure best practices.

  • Technical Skills: Utilize various programming languages to develop trading strategies, automate processes, and perform analysis. A high level of proficiency in Python is preferred.

  • Communication: Clearly communicate trade ideas and hedging solutions to the sales desk to support the client franchise.

  • Client Engagement: Meet with clients, understand their needs, and provide tailored solutions.

  • Relationship Building: Engage in outreach activities, deepen relationships, and connect clients with the right opportunities.

  • Leveraging Technology: Become a technology expert and help clients utilize our digital tools.

Who You Are

  • You have a Undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline and 0-2 years of experience. You are comfortable with numbers and have strong analytical skills.

  • You have a strong understanding of one or more programming languages, with a high level of proficiency in Python preferred.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $115,000 - $150,000 for the New York, NY market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit's incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component. CIBC offers a full range of benefits and programs to meet our employee's needs; including Medical, Dental, Vision, Health Savings Account, Life Insurance, Disability, and Other Insurance Plans, Paid Time Off (including Sick Leave, Parental Leave, and Vacation), Holidays, and 401(k), in addition to other special perks reserved for our team members.

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. Additional total compensation and benefits details will be provided during the hiring process.
