THE POSITION

Orange Coast College is seeking a temporary, 1-year contract, equity-minded faculty member in Public Health commencing with the Fall 2026 semester. The primary teaching assignment involves all areas of Public Health. This assignment also includes curriculum and program development; participation in department, division, and college committees; participatory governance activities assuming leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole; collaboration across disciplines; the leveraging of student support resources; participation in ongoing professional development; implementation, and continuous improvement of a Community Health Worker (CHW) program aligned with state requirements, industry standards, workforce needs, and maintaining and performing required accreditation for the program.

The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online, hybrid, or off-campus and is subject to change as needed. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Maintain currency within the assigned discipline(s)

• Demonstrate verbal and written communication proficiency with students, colleagues, and staff

• Provide instruction in Public Health in accordance with established course outlines.

• Teach a variety of Public Health courses, including introductory and specialized courses in public health, community health, health promotion, health disparities, and related disciplines.

• Provide leadership in the development and revision of the Public Health curriculum responsive to the students served.

• Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a Community Health Worker (CHW) program aligned with state requirements, industry standards, and workforce needs.

• Develop curriculum and instructional materials that reflect evidence-based public health practices and culturally responsive teaching strategies.

• Collaborate with faculty, administrators, healthcare organizations, public health agencies, and community-based organizations to establish clinical, fieldwork, service-learning, and experiential learning opportunities.

• Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation; participate in and develop programs to measure student performance.

• Support students pursuing transfer pathways, workforce certificates, and career opportunities in public health and community health.

• Participate in program review, student learning outcomes assessment, accreditation activities, and curriculum development.

• Engage in student mentoring, recruitment, retention, and outreach efforts, particularly for disproportionately impacted student populations.

• Contribute to department, division, college, and district shared governance activities.

• Foster an inclusive learning environment that promotes equity, diversity, accessibility, and student success.

• Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.

• Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a full-time faculty member including, but not limited to the following: teach all scheduled classes unless excused under provisions of Board Policy; follow the department course outlines; keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and progress; submit student grades according to established deadlines; post and maintain scheduled office hours; participate in departmental meetings and college and/or district-wide activities and committees as assigned.

Qualifications and Physical Demands

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid California Community College instructor credential, appropriate to the subject, per Education Code 87355 (issued before July 1, 1990); OR

• Master's in health science, health education, biology, nursing, physical education, kinesiology, exercise science, dietetics, nutrition, or public health; OR

• Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in any biological science; OR

• Possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of the above. Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher in Public Health, Community Health, Health Education, Health Promotion, Epidemiology, Healthcare Administration, Social Work, Nursing, or a closely related field.

• Experience developing, implementing, or coordinating Community Health Worker (CHW) programs, workforce training programs, or community-based health initiatives.

• Experience teaching Public Health or related coursework at the community college, college, or university level.

• Knowledge of health equity, social determinants of health, population health, and community engagement strategies.

• Experience working with diverse and underserved populations.

• Experience developing partnerships with healthcare providers, public health departments, community-based organizations, and workforce development agencies.

• Familiarity with California Community Health Worker initiatives, Medi-Cal programs, and emerging healthcare workforce trends.

• Experience with online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced instruction.

• Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive teaching

• Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students.

• Experience and skill in addressing issues of equity in the classroom.
