YOUTH PROGRAMMING ASSISTANT
The Milwaukee Rescue Mission Cross Trainers Academy (CTA) is a K4-12th grade Christian Academy in the heart of Milwaukee, serving students and families who are searching for a strong academic learning experience in a gospel-centered environment. As a Choice School, CTA is committed to offering a comprehensive, student-centered educational experience that serves the whole student. Our express purpose is to provide at-risk children with the opportunity for an excellent, Christian-based education that will equip them with academic, social, emotional, and spiritual tools for life.
Cross Trainers Academy is seeking a full-time Youth Programming Assistant to help plan, facilitate, and support our youth programming activities including, but not limited to, various sports opportunities, tutoring and homework assistance sessions, small and large group Bible study, field trips and other recreational activities. This individual works directly with the children enrolled at Cross Trainers Academy and other youth in the community, inspiring them through the gospel to achieve their academic, social, physical, and spiritual potential.
WORK SCHEDULE: Full- time, Monday-Friday
  • School Days: 9:30am -5:30pm, with the flexibility to occasionally work Saturdays and odd hours for events
  • Summer hours: 7:15am -3:15pm

LOCATION: North Campus, 1530 W Center Street, Milwaukee, WI. 53206
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with planning, facilitating and supporting annual programs for the Youth Programming Department, CTA students and families, and community youth
  • Support and promote the Youth Sports Program, including connecting with coaches, CTA staff and volunteers, gym set-up and clean-up, coaching basic sport and fitness fundamentals, creating packets for coaches and athletes and assembling and storing new equipment.
  • Assist with and support Youth Programming mentoring programs, including helping with curriculum instruction, event planning, monitoring expectations, following up with teachers/staff for behavioral reports, and providing mentoring (1:1, small and large group)
  • Support Aftercare program by assisting with homework, tutoring, recreational activities, devotional planning, supervision and discipline procedures, directing and supporting volunteers, and parent/guardian sign-out and daily reports.
  • Provide logistical support and assemble the necessary supplies for Aftercare, City Camp and other activities and events.
  • Support CTA staff utilizing the Youth Programming area by enforcing rules, assisting with crowd control, and the set-up and breakdown of activities
  • Inventory game room equipment, games and toys and replace/repair as needed
  • Maintain, sort, inventory and organize Youth Programming supplies and equipment, troubleshoot faulty equipment and report damaged/non-repairable equipment
  • Proactively invest in discipleship and mentoring relationships with program participants (K4-12th grade) that promote social and emotional support and growth
  • Creatively find ways to keep participants engaged and participating
  • Interface with parents/guardians to obtain consent for youth activity/program participation
  • Provide seasonal support for CTA Parent and Family Engagement events and related distributions (Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.)
  • Transport students to and from activities, in a 15-passenger van, as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Outreach ministry experience, preferably in an urban setting
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record is a must
  • Experience working with children and youth programming preferred
  • Passionate about youth and ministry with the ability and willingness to share the gospel
  • Culturally competent and relational with excellent interpersonal communication and mentoring skills
  • An authentic, eager and influential role model with the ability to motivate and inspire
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • High level of maturity, confidentiality, and assertiveness
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Creative skill set
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Reliability, dependability, and punctuality are expected
  • Must be able to handle physical workload – ability to stand or sit for long periods of time, walking, stair climbing, kneeling, squatting, crouching, reaching, handling and gripping without difficulty, repetitive movement of both hands and arms, as well as occasional lifting or moving items with a maximum weight of 40lbs a short distance (ex: floor to shelf or cart), and pushing or pulling heavier items with the use of a cart or dolly.
