Job description

Light of the World Christian Church has as its main priority the committed purpose to lead lost
souls to Jesus Christ, equip youth, adult, and senior saints for service, and to proclaim the
gospel message throughout the world.  Our focused goal is to be a church of excellence in the
community, for the community, transforming the community with the love of Christ.

POSITION REPORTS TO:  Facilities Maintenance Leader
 
POSITION SUMMARY:  The Church Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment throughout all church facilities.  This position supports the
ministry of Light of the World Christian Church by ensuring that worship spaces, classrooms, offices, restrooms, fellowship areas, and common spaces are thoroughly cleaned, prepared,
and maintained for worship services, ministry activities, and special events.  The Church Custodian serves as a steward of church facilities and contributes to an atmosphere that reflects
excellence, hospitality, and care for all members, guests, and visitors.

POSITION STATUS:  Part-Time, Non-Exempt (20-25 hours per week)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies.
2.Ensure facilities are clean, organized, and ready for ministry activities and events.
3.Follow all church safety policies and procedures and use cleaning chemicals and
equipment in a safe manner.
4.Gather, remove, and properly dispose of trash and recyclable materials.
5.Clean floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, and spot cleaning.
6.Perform routine floor care including stripping, sealing, waxing, buffing, and polishing.
7.Clean windows, glass partitions, mirrors, doors, and entryways.
8.Clean kitchens, fellowship halls, classrooms, offices, and common areas.
9.Maintain custodial closets and storage areas in a clean and organized manner.
10.Set up and break down rooms and spaces for worship services, meetings, weddings, funerals, and special events according to the ministry schedules.
11.Maintain inventory of custodial supplies and notify supervisor when replenishment is needed; assist with receiving and organizing custodial supplies as directed.
12.Conduct routine inspections and report maintenance concerns and safety hazards.
13.Monitor building security by locking and unlocking designated areas as assigned.
14.Observe building conditions and report concerns related to HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and building systems.
15.Assist with snow and ice removal at entrances and walkways when assigned.
16.Support the mission and values of LWCC through excellent facility stewardship.
17.Perform other duties as assigned.
WORK SCHEDULE:
•Approximately 20-25 hours per week. Schedule may include weekdays, evenings, weekends, and special church events as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•High school diploma or GED required.
•One year of custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or facility support experience preferred.
•Knowledge of proper cleaning procedures and chemical handling.
•Ability to safely operate custodial equipment and cleaning tools.
•Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
•Dependable attendance and strong work ethic.
•Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends when needed.
•Demonstrated servant attitude and support for the mission of Light of the World Christian Church.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENTS:
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, push, pull, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
•Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull custodial equipment, supplies, and furniture necessary to perform assigned duties, generally up to 25 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance or appropriate equipment when necessary.
•Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, and varying indoor and outdoor temperatures is expected.
•The position requires normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, and verbal communication abilities sufficient to safely perform essential job functions.
•Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
