Heritage Christian School Athletics Youth Program Coach

Scope
The coach interacts directly with coaches, parents and student-athletes as a representative of Heritage Christian School.
He/she is to live and coach in such a way so that student-athletes are led to righteousness in every area of life, and in
particular their athletic development. It is the desire of HCS Athletics to be a highly visible platform for the exhibition of
Christian character. Our teams play to win, but more importantly to glorify God. We are committed to an environment of
encouragement, teamwork, and excellence; not criticism, individualism, or perfectionism.

Qualifications
The candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect:
The coach must be a Christian with an authentic and a mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who
agrees to the HCS Statement of Faith, Charter of Core Values and Employee Covenant in both their professional
conduct and personal lifestyle. The coach is committed to incorporating these qualities and standards in carrying out
the calling to Christian education.
A daily example of the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school
Strong commitment to Heritage Christian Mission Statement and athletic philosophy
Ability to encourage partnerships with parents, coaches, students and other teams
Understands the developmental nature of youth sports
Meet the stress of athletic competition with emotional stability and positive words/actions.
Maintain a personal appearance that reflects a Christian role model of cleanliness, modesty, good taste and
agreement with school policy.
Managerial and coaching experience is preferred
Playing experience in the sport applying for is preferred
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
He/she will coach from a biblical perspective and strive to be a true reflection of Jesus Christ to our athletes.
Coach will create a winning environment by displaying a positive attitude and providing daily encouragement
to those under his/her leadership helping to build strong relationships
Have a consistent and daily walk with Jesus Christ and seek to model Him in speech, actions, and attitude.
Incorporate a devotion and prayer into the program, with intentionality to lead athletes to grow in mind, spirit,
and body. Set an example of the importance of prayer and Bible study.
Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with students, parents, administration, and staff.
Support the Administration in carrying out the mission of the school.
Recognition that parents are primarily responsible before God for their child and partner with them.
Encourage students to accept God’s gift of salvation and grow in their faith.
Emphasize to students the reality of their own self-worth in Christ.
Teach athletes to perform sound, safe fundamental techniques of the designated sport.
Promote honesty, integrity, humility, loyalty, unity and encourage total character development of our athletes.
The head coach will promote and encourage the success of all other programs, emphasizing the need to
share multi-sport athletes and to collaborate fruitfully with students, parents, and staff to balance our students’
investment in academics.
Coaches will be responsible for establishing team rules. These pre-approved rules must be communicated to
the team at the beginning of the season. These rules would include, but not limited to; practice attendance, lateness to
practice or games, or care of uniforms/equipment.
Provide supervision of the gym/field/etc at all times when athletes are present. Secure facilities when done.
Coaches should cover practice expectations in a pre-season meeting and/or informational letter.
Monitor Heritage Christian compliance with various rules and regulations
Operate within the annual budget report and spending for the sport

Student athletes will receive instruction that leads to the formation of moral values, pride of accomplishment,
acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence

Reporting Relationship
The Coach is responsible to the Assistant Athletic Director for Youth Sports and the Director of Athletics.
