Position Overview
The Vice President, SO Stewardship (VP) serves as a member of NCF's SO Team, delivering highly professional and technically accurate support related to the formation, management, and operations of Supporting Organizations of NCF. The VP will act as subject matter expert (SO SME) to supporting organizations, serve on SO boards, and provide other deliverables to SO boards, current and prospective givers, their professional advisors, NCF and local office staff, to inspire and facilitate tax-wise charitable giving to further NCF's charitable purposes. VP will serve with a pleasant demeanor, centered on inspiring Biblical generosity and reaching and restoring every person through the love of Christ.
This role is remote and may allow for a blend of in-office collaboration and remote work depending on location. We prefer the candidate to be local to the greater Atlanta area, though we value flexibility and are open to a fully remote candidate who lives in one of the following states: AR, CO, FL, GA, IL, KS, KY, MN, MO, NC, PA, SC, TN, or WI. This position requires 10-15% travel for meetings and events, conferences and seminars, and prospective SOs.

Duties & Responsibilities
SO Board Member and Subject Matter Expert
  • Uses knowledge of federal tax exempt organization law related to Type 1 Supporting Organizations corporate and trust law, charitable giving law and techniques, and Donor Advised Fund federal tax law to serve as SO Subject Matter Expert (SO SME) to supporting organizations at NCF, educating on tax-wise giving solutions; using the above knowledge, provides appropriate consultation for compliance and donor matters.
  • Serves as the SO SME on the Board of Directors (Trustees) of assigned SOs and delivers cogent compliance and operational advise to the boards, the SO team, Relationship Managers, and local office staff.
  • Provides oversight and direction to the SO boards on matters pertaining to policy development and adherence, compliance with federal and state regulations governing tax-exempt organizations, charitable contributions, expenditures and grants, and all other matters related to ensuring the Type 1 SO tax-exempt status of the entity is not compromised, but refrains from, and disclaims, providing legal, tax, or other professional advice or representation.
  • Serves as the Secretary and/or Treasurer of assigned SOs, when appropriate, to ensure the SO is operating in compliance as a Type 1 SO to NCF.
  • Attends SO board meetings in person, either in person or virtually, at least once per year for each assigned SO.

General Delivery of SO Services
  • Consistently delivers SO services in a competent, highly professional, friendly manner within the SO service standards, with due regard for the givers' well-being and charitable goals.
  • Communicates with givers, prospects, NCF and local office staff and other constituents regarding SO specific gifts, charitable planning issues alongside the Gift Planner(s), and serves as the SO SME throughout the planning and intake stages.
  • Develops, cultivates, and maintains strong relationships with other NCF and local office staff with whom the VP regularly interacts, particularly national and local Relationship Managers (RMs), the Complex Asset Solutions team, the Due Diligence team, and NCF's General Counsel's Office.
  • Develops SO proposals, illustrations, templates, and other deliverables, as needed, in crafting appropriate SO solutions for consideration by givers and their advisors.

Training and Education
  • Assists with and supports development, use and organization of technical and other presentations by SO Team for various constituencies.
  • Develops and maintains an excellent working knowledge and understanding of relevant laws and regulations pertaining to tax-exempt organizations (particularly Type I SOs and Donor Advised Funds), and charitable gift planning.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drafts policies, memoranda and other documents related to the formation, management and operations of assigned SOs in areas including compliance with federal tax requirements, state law, charitable contributions, investments and grants.

  • Strong background in tax-exempt organization legal and/or tax, with a preference for experience advising supporting organizations.

Knowledge Base
  • Working knowledge of charitable giving, nonprofit formation and governance subject matters.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality with sensitive organization and giver matters.
  • Highly efficient, self-motivated, takes initiative, and works independently with minimal supervision, while also careful to follow laws, policies, procedures, and instructions.

Benefits
The annual target pay range is $150,000.00 - $190,000.00 and offers health care benefits, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, earned paid time off and/or sick leave, life insurance, disability coverage, other life and work wellness benefits, and discretionary bonus. Benefits may be subject to generally applicable eligibility, waiting period, contribution, and other requirements and conditions.
