Description
The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at Baylor University seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty position in Chinese at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2027. Successful candidates are expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda in Chinese language, literature, and culture, appropriate for an R1 institution, contribute to the Chinese language program, and teach and mentor students. The area of specialization is open. Candidates who are outside of the United States and do not have other non-immigrant visa status will not be sponsored for an H-1B petition.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a research and teaching agenda in Chinese for undergraduate students appropriate for an R1 institution. Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to demonstrate potential, or have experience, in the following areas: teaching experience at the university level, demonstrated ability to teach a variety of Chinese language, literature, and culture courses, the ability to direct and supervise undergraduate research, a record of scholarly achievement and a rigorous research agenda, and the potential to seek external research funding. Native or near-native proficiency in both Chinese and English is required.
