Job description

We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Local 501Apprentice Engineer to support the daily operations of Data Center. This position works closely with the Chief Engineer and Journeyman Engineer to ensure all building systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.

The ideal candidate is eager to grow within commercial building operations and develop advanced engineering skills while gaining practical, hands-on experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the day-to-day maintenance of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC/R systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance and necessary repairs on building equipment
  • Monitor and ensure proper daily operation of HVAC/R systems
  • Replace air filters, adjust and replace belts, lubricate bearings, and repair motors and capacitors
  • Clean cooling towers and punch/clean chiller tubes
  • Conduct water treatment testing and evaluations
  • Service restroom plumbing systems, including snaking and augering drains
  • Generate and rekey building keys using the Schlage key system
  • Complete minor drywall repairs and painting
  • Communicate equipment issues and operational concerns to the Chief Engineer
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment

Qualifications

  • Must have already taken and passed the Local 501 Apprentice test
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification (required)
  • Working knowledge of HVAC/R systems
  • Experience with Energy Management Systems (EMS)
  • Basic plumbing and carpentry skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Basic computer proficiency

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in commercial building operations
  • Exposure to preventive maintenance programs
  • Familiarity with cooling towers, chillers, and water treatment processes
