Job description

Age Restrictions:

  •  Must be at least 16 years of age to use a case cutter.
  •  Must be at least 18 years of age to operate a trash baler, freight elevator, and any power-driven equipment.
  •  Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Driver License to operate a forklift and company vehicle. Also need to be company certified to operate a forklift.

The primary responsibility of a Stock Clerk is to ensure customer satisfaction by neatly and accurately stocking the sales floor shelves in a timely manner. A Stock Clerk also increases customer loyalty by assisting all customers with courteous, pleasant, patient service and treatment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
You MUST perform the following duties regularly and up to company standards:
Promptly, courteously and efficiently greet, thank, offer assistance, and meet the needs of all customers.
Retrieve perishable merchandise from the walk-in chill and freezer, transport it to the sales floor, and display it neatly in the correct locations.
Keep shelves fronted (pull merchandise to the front of shelves) and well stocked throughout the day, rotate items as needed, and pull outdated merchandise.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
In order to provide the best possible service to our customers, the following duties are also required on an as-needed basis, during slow periods, or upon instruction by a supervisor, manager or designated person-in-charge.
Monitor temperatures of display cases throughout the day. Check compressor, as needed.
Notify vendors of credited merchandise.
Make signs and display shelf talkers if needed. Report price label errors to the POS department.
Receive and store freight.
Answer phone calls and assist customers, as needed.
Take inventory of back stock and order merchandise as needed.
Price and code various merchandise as needed. Red tag or reduce items if necessary.
Perform hourly sweep log duties. Sweep and mop throughout the day, if necessary.
Keep aisles clear, neat and clean.
Clean display cases, walk-in chill and freezer, as needed.
Maintain organization and rotation of products in the walk-in chill and freezer.
Discard trash and cardboard boxes. Bale rubbish when baler is full.
Assist with quarterly inventory.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.

CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPECTATIONS
All associates are required to provide our customers with World Class Service with a local touch.
GREET all customers (be friendly, smile and make face-to-face eye contact).
HELP all customers (listen and pay attention; be courteous; be knowledgeable about product location, services offered and store hours; offer alternatives if a product is out of stock; take the customer to the product, etc.).
Personalize the customers shopping experience (make small talk, offer meal suggestions, explain current store promotions, etc.).
THANK all customers (show appreciation and offer a parting comment).
WORKING CONDITIONS

EQUIPMENT USE

Occasionally use a telephone to answer incoming phone calls and page other co-workers; baler to discard cardboard boxes; electric pallet jack and forklift to transport merchandise. Seldom use a broom, dustpan and mop for cleaning duties; handheld laser bar code scanning device (ex. Motorola, Symbol, Telxon) to order merchandise; various tools to fix display cases; ladder to retrieve and display merchandise on top shelves; code gun to price merchandise.

Continuously wear a back support belt when performing all job duties.

MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND COMMUNICATION DEMANDS
MENTAL Frequently need to concentrate well and be alert to perform all duties; be able to prioritize various tasks to maximize productivity and efficiency, even with frequent interruptions. Occasionally need to use wide field of vision to operate forklift and pallet jack; push and pull up to 300 lbs. and lift and carry up to 50 lbs. to retrieve merchandise from back stock using a stock wagon or pallet jack. Seldom need to climb a ladder and balance to clean, stock, and face top shelves, and retrieve items for customers.
COMMUNICATION Frequently need to listen, talk to, and understand customers, supervisors and co-workers, and assist them with their requests when doing all job duties; read product cases when receiving, storing and stocking merchandise; read shelf tags, signs and display plan when stocking shelves; read and write in communication book. Occasionally need to talk on the telephone to call other stores for information, answer incoming calls, transfer calls to another department, respond to Cashiers pages, use the PA system, and contact vendors.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Skills and Knowledge: Must have basic math skills, be able to multi task to accomplish work on time and meet ordering deadlines, be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with workers, vendors and management, and be able to work under minimal or no supervision. Be able to process invoices correctly and monitor item movement and inventory control.
