Job description

Join the world class safety culture at Amazon Web Services (AWS) and be part of supporting the largest cloud computing infrastructure team as a Regional Safety Manager. As the Regional Safety Manager, you will own the Health and Safety function of your respective area as well as supervise a team of Health and Safety Managers responsible for similar daily safety functions.
You will be responsible for improving the health and safety of our data centers, advancing safety culture, and protecting our employees. Each day you will work with our data center engineers, the people who make the cloud go

They are working with electrical switching equipment, large scale air handling mechanical systems, and critical IT gear.
You will work closely with experts in security, construction, operations, logistics, compliance, corporate counsel, and human resources to further the global health safety program. You will partner with employees as well as contractors to achieve health and safety goals and improve our already strong safety culture. You will work in a fast-paced environment where our operations are rapidly changing, advocating safe changes in the face of new infrastructure, new tools, and new products/processes.
This role is for a qualified and experienced Health and Safety Manager

The primary responsibilities of the role are to support the safety operations for Data Centers across the LATAM region (Mexico, Brazil, and Chile) and manage a team of Health and Safety Managers across these countries. You will have managed a team over a period of at least 3 years. You will be able to demonstrate how you continued to improve performance of an existing team along with displaying skills in creating or growing a team of health and safety professionals.

The candidate will be knowledgeable in safety regulations across multiple LATAM jurisdictions (e.g., NOM/STPS in Mexico, NRs in Brazil, DS/Chilean labor safety code) as well as industry best practices related to hazard recognition and mitigation.
You will be part of a regional and global team that works with internal and external partners to maintain and enhance the safety of operations. Close collaboration with onsite physical security, vendors, compliance officers, risk management, and fire/life safety systems is required. Additionally, you will work with employees and contractors to achieve specific safety objectives.
You must be an effective communicator, sending clear, concise, and consistent messages verbally, in written form, and/or public speaking forums

Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is strongly preferred given the multi-country scope. This individual will advise, instruct, and train company safety professionals, as well as operations personnel on safety policies and procedures. You will also assist the teams in incorporating and improving our safety standards at their sites.
This role requires regular travel across Mexico, Brazil, and Chile

Key job responsibilities
- Managing and developing Health and Safety Managers, providing both technical and leadership expertise and ensuring highest levels of performance.
- Recruit talent for the LATAM region (Mexico, Brazil, Chile).
- Create a positive partnership with regional operations leadership and serve as point of contact and escalation for safety related matters.
- Work with partners such as legal and program teams to ensure compliance to Safety programs such as Lockout Tagout, Fall Protection, Fire Prevention, Emergency Procedures and Evacuation, and other such programs for each DC. Ensure alignment with applicable local regulations including STPS/NOM standards (Mexico), Normas Regulamentadoras (Brazil), and Direccion del Trabajo/DS requirements (Chile).
- Lead a team to ensure compliance with company, global, regional, and/or local Health and Safety standards.
- Support new region launch including initial site inspections, identifying accountability, and site readiness review.
- Perform safety data analysis and create benchmarking.
- Ensure proper record keeping and provide accurate reporting and metrics to support business safety initiatives.
- Support your team to develop and implement solutions to eliminate exposure to risks and prevent injury.
- Act as the representative for regulatory authority inspections (STPS, Ministerio do Trabalho, Direccion del Trabajo, or equivalent) and address any issues that may arise on a site level for that region.
- Oversee contractor safety management, including credential verification and compliance with third-party safety requirements.
- Adapt to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, strategy, and deadlines.
- Support the identification and implementation of initiatives to reduce Health and Safety risks and improve team efficiency.
- All other duties as assigned.
