Job description

Position Summary: The mission of Picnics in the Park is to provide nutritious lunches and active play for children and youth in our neighborhood while establishing and developing relationships between neighborhood families and The Salvation Army Corps and their other programs.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Implement program under the direction of the Picnics in the Park Director.
  • Comply with all Safe from Harm requirements.
  • Help maintain standards.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for the children.
  • Receive food delivered from Genesee County Community Action Resource Department (GCCARD) and store in a safe manner.
  • Load and unload crates of food to transport food to Memorial Park and prepare food for serving.
  • Carefully enforce rules in dispensing food to only those who qualify.
  • Follow proper food handling procedures and GCCARD requirements.
  • Interact with children during recreation, craft, structured physical activities, and educational activities.
  • Help fill out meal count form and call-in next day's order/meal count to GCCARD.
  • Clean and maintain program areas such as mopping, sweeping, wiping down tables, taking out trash, etc.
  • Help maintain statistics and report to GCCARD or Picnics in the Park Director.
  • Make a copy of the delivery ticket and meal count form and put original forms in with the crates and food bags which will be picked up the next day.
  • Maintain focus on interacting with the kids. No cell phone use is allowed for voice or texting or other purposes while on the clock. (Unless emergency).
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Must be 18 years old or older
  • High school diploma / GED preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Prior experience working with youth and/or willing to be trained.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Clear understanding and acceptance of the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army (preferred)
  • Desire to work with children ages birth through eighteen and interact with their parents.

Computer Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
  • Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
  • Basic computer knowledge

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
  • Must be trained to handle food by GCCARD
  • Must have and maintain a current valid driver's license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR)
