Position Title:

Children's Art Instructor

09/09Provo City's Recreation Center is seeking a part-time community programs art instructor to run youth art programs at the Recreation Center. Qualified, civic-minded individuals interested in the recreational services provided to Provo's residents are encouraged to apply.

What is the compensation?

Pay Rate: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Part-time Provo City employees are eligible to contribute to individual retirement savings plans through the City (401k, 457, Roth IRA, and/or Traditional IRA) and receive the following great perks: a) free admission to the Provo Recreation Center, Peaks Ice Arena Public Skating, and Provo Shooting Sports Park; b) a free Provo City Library Card; c) a 25% discount on Provo Recreation Center memberships (direct family only); and d) discounts from various local and national vendors.

What will I do?

  • Create engaging art program curriculum.

  • Promote and market the course.

  • Provide energetic classes and instruct students of varying levels.

  • Set up and take down materials for students.

  • Track attendance.

  • Evaluate program success for future modification and improvement.

What requirements do I need to apply?

  • Sufficient knowledge of art instruction relating to kids ages 5-13 to demonstrate an ability to perform the duties.

  • At least one year of experience working with children.

  • Experience with supervising children.

  • Preference given to applicants with previous instructing experience and for interest in and ability to deliver multiple art mediums.

What are the hours?

Hours worked depends on the number of classes you teach. Art class schedule will be set by instructor and supervisor. Evening hours will be required.

What are the physical and environmental factors?

This work requires physical strength and agility to perform the work, including standing for extended periods of time, and other varied activities associated with performing the essential duties.

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on September 10, 2026. Applicants mustmeet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
