Job description

Union Gospel Mission Position Description

        

POSITION TITLE: Children’s Activity Center Assistant

REPORTS TO: CAC Coordinator

SUPERVISES: N/A

LOCATION: 18555 NW Rock Creek Blvd., Portland, OR 97229

STATUS: Part-time

WAGE: $18 per hour, 20 hours a week (max 30), no benefits

 

OVERALL POSITION DESCRIPTION:         

Assist with educational care for high needs children ages 6 months - 18 years of age.

 

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Provide trauma-informed care that is safe, healthy, and nurturing for children
  • Actively engage with children and guide them in appropriate educational programing
  • Empower children to be confident and independent in their works and activities       
  • Keep to a daily and weekly schedule
  • Practice consistent and proactive communication with staff
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all clients and records
  • Help maintain a positive, pleasant, and Christian atmosphere at WLC
  • Assist with any other job-related duties as assigned by the Women and Children’s Director

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Agreement with the purposes of UGM/WLC programs and the grace-based team approach to ministry
  • Concerned, caring heart for needy families and a willingness to confront behavior consistently and respectfully
  • Ability to work in cooperation with the other UGM/WLC volunteers and staff
  • Committed Christ follower. Agree with UGM’s statement of faith and values of the organization.
  • Ability to behave calmly in stressful situations
  • High School diploma or GED
  • At least six months' experience working with children
  • Familiarity with Montessori learning style is preferred, not required
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Good time management and organization skills
  • A nurturing spirit when interacting with children, parents, and staff
  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe environment for children 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • A criminal history and background check are required and must be successfully completed
  • Able to stand/ bend/ be active for up to 4 hours a day
  • Ability to walk up and down steps
