Job description

 
Are we the road to your future?


We are currently searching for an experienced Transportation Engineer to support our Gulf Region group located in Birmingham, Huntsville, and Tuscaloosa, AL.


To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, 5 years of transportation planning experience.

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Perform routine aspects of assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles
  • Projects may include traffic operations analysis, traffic signal design, traffic signal timing development, corridor planning studies, transportation safety studies, roadway master planning, long range transportation planning, and transportation modeling (micro and macro)
  • Assist the Project Manager in the development and design of projects
  • Assist Service Line Manager in development of Engineering Interns 
  • Prepare engineering studies, documents, and reports

What you need to have: 

  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering from ABET accredited engineering program
  • 5 – 10+ years of experience – Must be in transportation planning
  • Alabama PE License required
  • PTOE, PTP, and/or RSP certifications are a plus 
  • Proficiency with transportation planning practices and procedures 
  • Proficiency with Synchro, VISSIM, SIDRA, HCS, and Microstation
  • Familiarity with CUBE Voyager and TransCAD is a plus
  • Mastery with MS Office products
  • Must be dependable with the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team to meet deadlines and provide high quality work
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
  • Valid driver’s license
  • A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
